With over 100 years of experience in crafting the finest artist quality canvases, Claessens is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field. Each Claessens canvas undergoes a rigorous treatment and process to meet different requirements for artists.First, all raw canvases are sized with a synthetic PVA glue. For oil primed canvases, the next step involves applying a primer of zinc white paint bound with linseed oil to the glued linen, by means of two knives. The canvas is then put into a drying room for three days where it air-dries naturally. After this first initial drying time, the canvas is then sanded and a coating layer based on titanium white is applied to the canvas by means of two knives and a roller. The canvas is then placed in the drying room for another ten days.Claessens' Oil Primed Canvases are suitable for oil paint. For a full description of the various processes which go into manufacturing a Claessens canvas, click here

Graduate Acrylic colours are of good pigment strength and flow easily across paper and primed surfaces. Colours are water-based and contain no solvents. In accordance with EC labelling regulations, all colours are classified as non-dangerous for use. The advantage of acrylic colours to schools and hobbyists, of course, is that artwork can be dried and stored away shortly after an art class has been completed, and will not smudge if water is spilled on the surface of the painting. The colours are fast-drying, durable and flexible, so paintings will last a long time. Paper and canvas coated with Graduate Acrylic can be loosely rolled and stored without fear of cracking. With waste of colour in mind, Daler–Rowney have developed a unique packaging for Graduate Acrylic colours. All colours come in a 500ml squeezable pot that has a lid with a unique valve mechanism and stay-clean technology to dispense the colour, so only what is needed comes out of the pot, minimising the waste in the classroom, workshop or at home!

Pitt artists' pastel pencils, with their oil-free pastel leads, are used by artists not only as the perfect complement to pastel crayons for elaborating fine details, but also on their own. Many artists who enjoy pastel techniques and their versatility, but not the dirty hands and coloured dust that accompany them, have opted to use these special pencils. Pitt pastel pencils have a very compact lead which is economical to use. The lead contains a high level of pigment, making the pencils ideally suited both to drawing lines and shading, as well as blending and merging into delicate colour transitions. The colour selection in this range places a particular emphasis on the muted shades and earth tones that are especially important for pastel drawing.

Pigment Index: PR177 Colour Lightfastness: Good Colour Transparency: Transparent Traditionally crafted and triple-milled in England, Georgian Oil Colours provide colour consistency from wet to dry and an even performance and finish across all colours. With a smooth and buttery consistency, Georgian Oil Colours are ideal for experimenting with different brush and knife techniques. They are intermixable and have high pigment loads, including traditional pigments such as cadmium and cobalt. Georgian Oil Colours generally require very limited quantities of medium, so they can be used straight from the tube. All colours are lightfast and rated as Excellent (****) or Good (***). The surface is typically dry in 4 to 5 days.
With Original and Heavy Body versions, System 3 acrylics are highly versatile, water-based acrylic colours. They offer an excellent painting experience at an economical price. Only high-quality pigments are used in the manufacture of the System 3 acrylic ranges, offering significantly greater loading than in other acrylic ranges available in this class. System 3’s comprehensive range of colours offers excellent light-fastness, permanence, durability and covering power. All colours can be thinned with water to pale washes, or used directly from the pot or tube; each form dries quickly to create an insoluble film. The quick drying properties of the range enable the artist to work quickly, superimposing or juxtaposing colours without unnecessary fuss. All System 3 Original and Heavy Body colours are fully intermixable and suitable for interior use. As they are not lightfast, fluorescent colours are not recommended for exterior use; all other colours are both lightfast and durable.
