American born designer John Varvatos credits his love for rock music as
the catalyst that drives him in fashion. Growing up in a suburb of
Metro Detroit, Varvatos discovered the sounds of Iggy Pop and Alice
Cooper among others in his youth and has used their creative energy to
fuel that of his own. Joining Polo Ralph Lauren in 1983 Varvatos plied
his craft there until 1990 when he moved to Calvin Klein to head
menswear design for the collection as well as the cK brand. He returned
to Ralph Lauren in 1995 as the head of menswear design for all Lauren
brands and subsequently created the Polo Jeans Company.
The spirit of modern man - relaxed and confident - is the theme of Calvin Klein Eternity for men. This subtle, sophisticated scent is built with rich base notes of sandalwood, amber and vetiver leading to a heart and top notes of rich, sweet mandarin. Sage and basil bring a touch of the earth whilst lavender and jasmine add a layer of subtly. Calvin Klein Eternity for Men was designed as a complement to Eternity for Women, but stands successfully on its own, the essence of today’s man.
As a man who made the enjoyment of life a philosophy, Zino Davidoff
believed in enriching the world with beauty and elegance. The son of an immigrant
tobacco merchant in Geneva Switzerland, Davidoff journeyed to Latin
America at 18 in 1924 to learn the tobacco trade. Returning to Geneva
and taking over the family business in the early 1930s, Davidoff saw
his family’s shop thrive in the haven Switzerland had become for the
wealthy in World War II. The marketing of Cuban cigars, his desktop
cigar humidor and his writings on cigar smoking
and Cuban brands made Davidoff very well known and successful. He sold
his business to the Max Oettinger Company in 1970 but stayed on as the
ambassador for the Davidoff brand until his death in 1994. A holding
company founded in 1885, Max Oettiger recognized the reputation of both
Davidoff the man and his wares and realized they had the perfect
products and vehicle to take this brand to the next level. Eventually,
80% of Oettiger’s revenue would be derived from tobacco and smokers’
accessories marketed primarily under the Davidoff name while 20% came
from other products such as writing instruments, cognacs, leather goods
and fragrances.
