The Church of Satan II - Volume II - Appendices (Paperback): Michael A. Aquino The Church of Satan II - Volume II - Appendices (Paperback)
Michael A. Aquino
R669 Discovery Miles 6 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

As a religious institution consecrated by and literally acknowledging the Prince of Darkness, the Church of Satan enjoyed an inspiring, and occasionally either thrilling or terrifying, existence from 1966 to 1975. Beginning as a whimsical and satirical countercultural statement against the social and institutionally-religious hypocrisy of the 1960s, the Church of Satan proceeded to evolve into a positive, sincere, and to its own surprise] virtuous organization, though not without periodic individual and group growing pains: the consequence of allegiance to a supernatural entity only dimly apprehended and understood by Western Judaeo-Christianized civilization. From its 1979 1st Edition to this 2013 8th, _The Church of Satan_ remains the only complete documentary history of that fascinating and bizarre adventure, from Anton & Diane LaVey's founding of the Church in their San Francisco home to its surprising dissolution into a secular business a decade later and metaphysical supersession by the Temple of Set. Ever since its 1981 2nd Edition, _The Church of Satan_'s growing size made it impossible to print. Volume I of this 8th Edition finally fits all of the text and plates into fewer than 500 pages: 285,300 words, 39 chapters, 73 color plates. This companion Volume II contains all 161 Appendices (247,000 words, 460 pages, B&W). Both volumes should be acquired and read together.

Begone Satan! a Soul-Stirring Account of Diabolical Possession (Paperback): Carl Vogel Begone Satan! a Soul-Stirring Account of Diabolical Possession (Paperback)
Carl Vogel
R173 Discovery Miles 1 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2013 Reprint of 1935 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "Begone Satan" follows two priests' ordeal with an exorcism of a forty year-old woman in Earling, Iowa. The women being exorcised is a forty year old woman who had been filled with the demons since she was fourteen years-old. At first the priests do not know the cause of the demons but later find out that both her Aunt Mina, who was one of the demons, and her father Jacob, also a demon, placed curses on her when she was young. She was a very pious woman but the demons prevented her from leading a normal life. She had been examined by doctors of all sorts to try and discover a reason for her behavior but none could be found. So she agrees to go along with the exorcism. The book is a battle between the forces of good and evil right from the start. As soon as the first prayer is said on the first day she jumped and clung to a wall in the church. For most of the book the woman is unconscious and the demons are talking through her. The priests encounter 4 powerful demons along with countless weaker demons. The exorcism lasted for 23 days. It was a very consuming process of all parties involved. In the book Fr. Theophilus is said to be in excellent condition but by the end he looks as if he aged twenty years. The exorcism is a trying time for everyone involved. It almost claimed the life of Fr. Steiger when Satan tried to scare him out of completing the exorcism. After over 3 three weeks, and lots of praying, the demons leave the woman.

Lucifer - The Devil in the Middle Ages (Paperback, New edition): Jeffrey Burton Russell Lucifer - The Devil in the Middle Ages (Paperback, New edition)
Jeffrey Burton Russell
R683 Discovery Miles 6 830 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Evil is an intrinsically fascinating topic. In Lucifer, Jeffrey Burton Russell continues his compelling study of the personification of evil in the figure of the Devil. The previous two volumes in this remarkable tertalogy—The Devil and Satan—trace the history of the concept of the devil comparatively as it emerged in diverse cultures and followed its development in Western thought from the ancient Hebrew religion through the first five centuries of the Christian era.The present volume charts the evolution of the concept of the devil from the fifth century through the fifteenth. Drawing on an impressive array of sources from popular religion, art, literature, and drama, as well as from scholastic philosophy, mystical theology, homiletics, and hagiography, Russell provides a detailed treatment of Christian diabology in the Middle Ages. Although he focuses primarily on Western Christian thought, Russell also includes, for the sake of comparison, material on the concept of the devil in Greek Orthodoxy during the Byzantine period as well as in Muslim thought.Russell recounts how the Middle Ages saw a refinement in detail rather than a radical alteration of diabological theory. He shows that the medieval concept of the devil, fundamentally unchanged over the course of the centuries, eventually gave rise to the unyielding beliefs that resulted in the horrifying cruelties of the witch-hunting craze in the 1500s and 1600s. This major contribution to the history of the Middle Ages and to the history of religion will enlighten scholars and students alike and will appeal to anyone concerned with the problem of evil in our world.

Paths to Satan - A Guide to Contemporary Satanism (Paperback): Martin McGreggor Paths to Satan - A Guide to Contemporary Satanism (Paperback)
Martin McGreggor
R312 Discovery Miles 3 120 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Paths to Satan: A Guide to Contemporary Satanism, guides non-Satanists and those considering Satanism through varying types of Satanic practice and beliefs. This book, written by a practicing Satanist, can be used as a starting point for Satanists to help open a dialogue or educate their family and friends about their spiritual path. So many books of this nature are unnecessarily verbose or are written by Christians or Satanists attempting to push their own agenda. McGreggor is concise, practical, and provides an open viewpoint from inside Satanism itself without the speculation and conjecture found in similar books written from a Christian perspective.

Confessions of a Demonized Christian - How I received another "Jesus," then overcame the imposters (Paperback): Bs Ma David... Confessions of a Demonized Christian - How I received another "Jesus," then overcame the imposters (Paperback)
Bs Ma David Allen Haddon
R222 Discovery Miles 2 220 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"Confessions" is my first person account of how I was physically occupied by demons after I received a spirit claiming to be "Jesus" and of the spiritual warfare that followed as I struggled to survive. I include actual excerpts from the daily journal I kept during the first five months of the battle. I also devote a chapter to the biblical evidence that a Christian can have demons, that is, be demonized. Other chapters on the means I used to survive and thrive will be helpful to those who have become occupied or even possessed by demons. And those in Christian ministry will find this book helpful in ministering to those afflicted by demons. In addition, I include an appendix on how to avoid the hazard of demonization or occupation by demons, a phenomenon likely to increase given the re-Paganization of Western Europe and America. This section includes the spiritual counterfeits such as apparitions of dead relatives that demons use to deceive and enter the spiritually unwary.

Dragon of the Two Flames - Demonic Magick & the Gods of Canaan (Paperback): Kitti Solymosi Dragon of the Two Flames - Demonic Magick & the Gods of Canaan (Paperback)
Kitti Solymosi; Michael W. Ford
R777 Discovery Miles 7 770 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

One of the most insightful books which presents ancient records which reveal the origins of Christianity as a means of controlling the masses. The enemies of the cult of Yahweh were of pantheons which inspired, excited and represented the possibilities in those who sought to overcome their obstacles and utilize the knowledge of darkness and to ascend in light. Luciferianism now with historical, archeological and etymological fact with the Adversarial Ideology will help reveal, destroy and allow the liberation of the subconscious and conscious mind from the slave-mentality of Christianity. The Canaanite Gods are awakened and restored to their former strength, beauty and power for the strong and wise who seek to strive and attain self-excellence via Luciferianism. The ancient enemies of Yahweh were great and powerful deities associated with the reality of nature and the individual mind; until they their cults were destroyed by the Judeo-Christian religion which was adopted by the crumbling Roman Empire, the pride of self-excellence and living with a sense of balance was common. Gods such as Chemosh, Baal, Baal-Zebub, Anat, Ashtoreth/Astarte, Dagan, Melqart, Mot, Yam, and so many other ancient deities are restored to their ancient purpose and meaning. A complete modern grimoire, this book begins with Luciferian Ideology and the modern practice of the ancient pantheons within. The history of the Canaanites, Phoenicians, Philistines, Hittites, Moabites, Eblaites, Mari and Ammonites including their associations with the enemy of their cults, Yahweh. The realistic and etymological source of the old gods and demons are revealed including how they may be invoked with offerings f water, honey, incense and raw meat including the real hymns and incantations used in their ancient cults. Necromancy, the cult of the Rephaim and summoning the shades of the Dead are presented in authentic practice which destroys the Christian ideology of naming the old ones as 'evil'. Illustrated by Kitti Solymosi with over 56 God and Demon illustrations, including additional art by three other artists this grimoire will appeal to not only Luciferians but also former Christians, Satanists, Thelemites, Wiccans and other Pagans. The Second half explores First Century Demonology all the way through Medieval Qlippoth and the emergence of the Devil. The Gates of Luciferian Wisdom and the old Gods & Demons are open

Straplatch - Dealing with Devils and Demons (Paperback): Amado Crowley Straplatch - Dealing with Devils and Demons (Paperback)
Amado Crowley
R531 R473 Discovery Miles 4 730 Save R58 (11%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Written by a Master of occultism with 50 years of experience in guiding occult students, this book alerts the reader to the presence, indeed the ubiquity of demons in every aspect of our experience and dealings. It brings the reader to an understanding of the nature of demons, and how to control or mitigate their malign influence. The book also includes details of a ritual to exorcise your own personal demons. As with all of Amado's written works, the style is down-to-earth and practical, if at times seemingly paradoxical. Amado is not providing a set of rules, but rather leading the reader to that point where they can reach within and find the necessary knowledge and resources to handle the situation.

Satanic Strategies (Paperback): Marie Swanson, Fred Deruvo Satanic Strategies (Paperback)
Marie Swanson, Fred Deruvo
R447 Discovery Miles 4 470 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the late 70s, early 80s, the subject of Satanism and Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) was making headlines across the land. Mike Warnke, Lauren Stratford, Rebecca Brown and others came forward with harrowing tales of their own involvement in Satanism. Though others began to come forward with similar horrific tales, due to the efforts of a few staff writers at Cornerstone Magazine who set out to debunk it, the entire topic died virtually overnight. No longer did anyone feel comfortable discussing it for fear of being cast as a lunatic or worse. Roughly forty years later in 2010, the level and intensity of Satanic evil is once again on the rise and has become far more blatant. Where are the naysayers now? Why was it summarily squelched then, but becoming accepted now? Is there a connection? We know without doubt that Satan has worked for thousands of years to perfect His strategies; engaging, ensnaring, and utlimately controlling people for his purposes. Those strategies work themselves out in a variety of ways, some of them extremely difficult to believe, all of them sick, demented, and vile. Christians need to wake up to the fact that wars rage all around us constantly. Certainly, God has already won the battle; however, each individual Christian is responsible for his or her part in that war. Do you know what the enemy is doing? Are you aware of how his tendrils have forced their way into every aspect of our society? Are you also aware that souls hang in the balance? Get up, open your eyes, and prepare to take on the enemy with God's strength and in His armor. It is a victory that is already ours

Everyday Magicians - Legal Records and Magic Manuscripts from Tudor England (Paperback): Sharon Hubbs Wright, Frank Klaassen Everyday Magicians - Legal Records and Magic Manuscripts from Tudor England (Paperback)
Sharon Hubbs Wright, Frank Klaassen
R560 Discovery Miles 5 600 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Most of the women and men who practiced magic in Tudor England were not hanged or burned as witches, despite being active members of their communities. These everyday magicians responded to common human problems such as the vagaries of money, love, property, and influence, and they were essential to the smooth functioning of English society. This illuminating book tells their stories through the legal texts in which they are named and the magic books that record their practices. In legal terms, their magic fell into the category of sin or petty crime, the sort that appeared in the lower courts and most often in church courts. Despite their relatively lowly status, scripts for the sorts of magic they practiced were recorded in contemporary manuscripts. Juxtaposing and contextualizing the legal and magic manuscript records creates an unusually rich field to explore the social aspects of magic practice. Expertly constructed for both classroom use and independent study, this book presents in modern English the legal documents and magic texts relevant to ordinary forms of magic practiced in Tudor England. These are accompanied by scholarly introductions with original perspectives on the subjects. Topics covered include: the London cunning man Robert Allen; magic to identify thieves; love magic; magic for hunting, fishing and gambling, and magic for healing and protection.

Instruments of Darkness - Witchcraft in Early Modern England (Paperback): James Sharpe Instruments of Darkness - Witchcraft in Early Modern England (Paperback)
James Sharpe
R837 Discovery Miles 8 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

They flew through the air, consorted with animals, and made pacts with the devil. Witches were as unquestioned as alchemy or astrology in medieval England; yet it wasn't until the midsixteenth century that laws were passed against them. Now a leading historian of crime and society in early modern England offers the first scholarly overview of witchcraft in that country in over eighty years, examining how tensions between church, state, and society produced widespread distrust among fearful people.
"Instruments of Darkness" takes readers back to a time when witchcraft was accepted as reality at all levels of society. James Sharpe draws on legal records and other sources to reveal the interplay between witchcraft beliefs in different partts in the social hierarchy. Along the way, he offers disturbing accounts of witch-hunts, such as the East Anglian trials of 1645-47 that sent more than 100 people to the gallows. He tells how poor, elderly women were most often accused of witchcraft and challenges feminist claims that witch-hunts represented male persecution by showing that many accusers were themselves women.
Prosecution of witches gradually declined with increasing skepticism among jurists, new religious attitudes, and scientific advances that explained away magic. But for two hundred years, thousands participated in one of history's most notorious persecutions. "Instruments of Darkness" is a fascinating case study that deepens our understanding of this age-old cultural phenomenon and sheds new light on one society in which it occurred.

The Possession at Loudun (Paperback, 2nd ed.): Michel De Certeau, Michael B. Smith The Possession at Loudun (Paperback, 2nd ed.)
Michel De Certeau, Michael B. Smith
R884 Discovery Miles 8 840 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

It is August 18, 1634. Father Urbain Grandier, convicted of sorcery that led to the demonic possession of the Ursuline nuns of provincial Loudun in France, confesses his sins on the porch of the church of Saint-Pierre, then perishes in flames lit by his own exorcists. A dramatic tale that has inspired many artistic retellings, including a novel by Aldous Huxley and an incendiary film by Ken Russell, the story of the possession at Loudun here receives a compelling analysis from the renowned Jesuit historian Michel de Certeau.
Interweaving substantial excerpts from primary historical documents with fascinating commentary, de Certeau shows how the plague of sorceries and possessions in France that climaxed in the events at Loudun both revealed the deepest fears of a society in traumatic flux and accelerated its transformation. In this tour de force of psychological history, de Certeau brings to vivid life a people torn between the decline of centralized religious authority and the rise of science and reason, wracked by violent anxiety over what or whom to believe.
At the time of his death in 1986, Michel de Certeau was a director of studies at the ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales, Paris. He was author of eighteen books in French, three of which have appeared in English translation as "The Practice of Everyday Life, " "The Writing of History, " and "The Mystic Fable, Volume 1, " the last of which is published by The University of Chicago Press.
"Brilliant and innovative. . . . "The Possession at Loudun" is de Certeau's] most accessible book and one of his most wonderful."--Stephen Greenblatt (from the Foreword)
