Theories For Decolonial Social Work Practice In South Africa is a local book critically presenting social work theories that are suitable for decolonial and developmental generalist practice in the Global South. The choice of theories included in this book is informed by the lived experiences of South Africans in a multicultural, post-colonial, post-apartheid society. The book sees the goal of social work as effecting transformation and liberation, through the implementation of the developmental approach, and by drawing on decolonial and African concepts. It supports social workers in working toward this goal by stimulating critical reflection and disrupting taken-for-granted beliefs and practices. It guides readers to work with client groups across the micro-mezzo-macro continuum in such a way that they are empowered to develop agency, thereby affirming the basic values of social justice and human dignity. Theories For Decolonial Social Work Practice In South Africa is suitable for social work education and the in-service training of qualified social workers, child and youth care workers and community development practitioners. In addition, the book will be of interest to social work academics and researchers because of its unique decolonial and African approach to Global North theories, and its contribution to the development of Global South theories.
While many books focus on occupational health and safety in the international arena, few provide information pertinent to safety management in South Africa and Africa as a whole. Safety Management in an Organisational Context aims to bridge the gap and to increase safety awareness at all levels of any organisation in Africa. The topics discussed in the book include safety in industry, functional safety, working in confined spaces, ergonomics, personal protective equipment and fire safety. The general provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and its regulations are explained in detail as they relate to safety in the South African workplace today.
With businesses competing globally more than ever before, and with the increased use of social media for marketing, companies are realising that they need to do more to add value to their products and services, and to enhance and manage the customer experience. In order to meet the expectations of today’s demanding and changing consumer, marketers and students of marketing alike need to be aware of the latest trends in marketing methods and technologies and how to use them to attract and keep customers. With a user-friendly layout highlighting definitions, examples, case studies and websites, this fourth edition of Marketing Management: A South African Perspective gives undergraduate students a comprehensive understanding of marketing — at a practical and academic level. Contributions from leaders in the field of marketing in South Africa and from academics at leading universities, locally and internationally, will ensure that this edition becomes as highly regarded as its predecessors.
It is nearly two decades since public schools in South Africa began to admit learners from all cultural and racial backgrounds, and this diversity has resulted in a need for schools to evolve with the changing circumstances as well as to maintain excellence. Teachers are faced daily with the challenge of teaching and managing learners of unfamiliar cultures, languages and backgrounds. Multicultural education introduces various models of multicultural education and provides practical, low-cost classroom strategies which teachers can implement effectively in culturally diverse schools. Multicultural education explores concepts of diversity in society from various theoretical perspectives and discusses the implications of differences and similarities among South African learners. Practical activities at the end of each chapter allow teachers to reflect critically on their own practice, and assist educational leaders to carry out professional development in multicultural education in their schools. Contents include the following:
One of the most important functions that nurses have is the handling and administration of all drug schedules for patients under their care. Another vital function is the monitoring of their patients’ responses to these drug schedules. Both functions are crucial in making sure that patients under their care benefit optimally from the drug therapy they receive. To ensure that nurses are fully competent to carry out these critical functions of drug handling, administration and evaluation, the content of this fourth edition of Pharmacology for Nurses has been updated to include the most recent developments in drug therapy. For example, the chapter on administration of drugs to patients has been expanded. Similarly, the section on therapeutic uses of alpha agonists now includes subsections on cardiac arrest, as well as on hypotension and shock.
English For Law Students has been written by experts in communication and aims at encouraging dialogue and interaction between lecturer and student. The methodology used is not only useful to law students but also to those lecturers who do not have a legal background. This third edition has been updated and includes an audio CD, containing exercises for listening practice, aimed at developing and refining note-making skills.
How does the South African economy work? Why do macroeconomic variables change? So what if they do? What happens next? How do economic processes and policy institutions really work? Which data must I use? What can policy do? And then the big questions: How can we reduce unemployment and maintain low inflation? What then about poverty, inequality, inclusive growth and development in South Africa? The answers are found in How to think and reason in Macroeconomics – A South African text, a popular university textbook with very positive feedback from students, lecturers and practitioners. This fifth edition is completely up-to-date and comprehensive. It combines well-informed intuitive understanding with solid economic theory plus a concrete understanding of South African economic issues, processes, institutions and data. In this way it prepares you to analyse macroeconomic events and policies in a globalised and development context – and understand different perspectives in policy and political-economic debates. The field of human resource management (HRM) has grown significantly over the last 50 years. Although HRM is relatively new to the South African business environment, many companies started employing personnel managers (later to become known as HR managers) to head up personnel departments during the 1980s, primarily to help employers deal with the industrial action of trade unions. Their role has since expanded way beyond that. These days, HR managers play an important role in ensuring that companies utilise their human resources optimally. Introduction to human resource management provides a basic understanding of the principles of HRM and how it contributes to achieving organisational goals. Introduction to human resource management examines the essential aspects of the practice of HRM in the modern workplace. Essential theory is supplemented with practical guidelines for managing employees as well as other general functions in an organisation. Introduction to Human Resource Management is aimed at undergraduate students at further and higher education institutions within South Africa as well as managers and human resource practitioners.
Performance auditing can play a vital role in ensuring that taxpayers' money is spent economically, efficiently and effectively. Yet because it is difficult to explain its complexities to newcomers in the field in a way that makes sense the first time round, and because no two audits are identical, there is little practical guidance on the topic available in South Africa at present. Performance auditing: a step-by-step approach fills this gap. Performance auditing: A step-by-step approach focuses, step-by-step, on those elements that are relevant to all performance audits and can be applied easily and successfully. The second edition includes, among other things, a new section on strategic planning, additional illustrations of planning working papers on efficiency and economy, and updated terminology in line with that used in publications by the Presidency and the National Treasury of the Republic of South Africa. The numerous practical examples and case studies in the book make it ideal for hands-on use as a training guide. Performance auditing is aimed at practitioners, trainers and students in auditing.
Educational Psychology in Social Context: Ecosystemic applications in southern Africa is a tried-and-tested textbook that applies educational psychology - and, specifically, a unifying ecosystemic framework - to aid teachers and other educators to enhance the learning experience of students in a developing society. The book is relevant to both undergraduate and postgraduate study in either pre-service or in-service teacher education. It can be used for courses in educational psychology in programmes such as BEd, BEd (Hons) and PGCE, and as a handbook for teachers in the field.
A special edition matched to the curriculum requirements of Unisa. Based on the popular Teaching Foundation Phase mathematics - A guide for South African students and teachers.
The purpose of this book is to set out the principles and conceptual issues of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). From an academic point of view, the publication targets second-year students in the professional accounting programmes at SAICA-accredited universities in South Africa. |
