RESCUING MARTIN HANLEY is a story about a retired Chicago fireman
with five children who usually detest him and a resentful wife who
feels her life would be better without him. She wants to kill him,
ferociously spends money on home goods, and takes on a lover...and
happily tells him all about it. While he was always a hero on the
job, he never was a hero in the eyes of his own family. But he's a
dying man now and he knows it. He finds an unbiased woman who would
like to help him, which he doesn't believe is possible. But when he
begins to trust her enough to have full conversations with her, she
mistakenly allows herself to trust him in return. The tale appears
to be a slice-of-life and the drive of Martin Hanley's obstacles
beginning in 1973 and through the present day. Filled with tender
accounts of one man's efforts to reconcile his own bond with the
people he loves; this family saga is driven by a dark tragic family
