Using rare Movietone archive footage and material captured on film
by front line cameramen, this documentary chronicles Britain's
Second World War campaign in Italy. Churchill predicted that the
country would fall swiftly, and the initial assault in 1943 looked
set to prove him correct; the islands of Pantelleria and Lampedusa
were soon captured, and Sicily fell soon after. However, despite
the surrender of the Italians, the occupying German troops decided
to fight on, resulting in a two year war of attrition which tested
the mettle of the British forces to the limit.
