Surrogates (DVD)

This entertaining sci-fi actioner may seem somewhat reminiscent of movies like I, Robot and Minority Report, but it still manages to be quite a thrilling and exciting ride, as we enter a future where humans no longer have to leave the home but can instead function with robot surrogates of themselves. These "copies" of themselves can look better, work harder and if damaged, can always be replaced.

However, someone starts killing surrogates with a technologically advanced weapon, and in the process killing the human hosts as well. The F.B.I. starts investigating, led by agent Greer, played by Willis. But he soon discovers that there's much more to this mystery than meets the eye.

What makes this better than your run-of-the-mill sci-fi adventure is the plot which manages to dish up some startling surprises along the way. The movie is also helped by a strong cast, as well as some above-average special effects. Definitely worth a viewing! (4 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)

People are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates - sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It's an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don't exist.

When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery.
