Ray Galton and Alan Simpson script this 1970s BBC adaptation of the
novel by Gabriel Chevallier. The programme follows life in the
small French village of Clochmerle, where plans to install a public
urinal in the village square trigger a series of disagreements
between the many institutions and individuals in competition for
power. Cyril Cusack, Wendy Hiller and Kenneth Griffith are among
the stars, with narration from Peter Ustinov.
