Firstly, let me make it clear, that to enjoy this movie, you need not have been a regular fan of the TV series. Even if you have not seen the first theatrical movie, it actually shouldn't be a hindrance either. This has a stand-alone storyline, a mystery that skirts on the fringes of paranormal activity, and as such is immensely enjoyable as an above-average thriller.
Our two heroes, Mulder and Scully, no longer work for the F.B.I. But their help and valuable experience is required when another F.B.I. agent is abducted and the only leads from which to work on are coming from a convicted paedophile priest who has psychic visions of the victim. The crux of the movie is whether the priest is truly getting visions, hence Mulder's desire to "Want to believe". Scully is much more skeptical though. But the thrills start piling up once more victims get abducted, and it all leads to a fantastic climax that will surprise you at the villians' true motives.
The cast are all top-notch, and while it's not as action-packed or as epic in scope as the previous movie, it still manages to be a rollicking mystery thriller that doesn't require any extravagant special effects or non-stop explosions to hold your attention. (4 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny re-team to unravel a bizarre case right out of The X-Files.
Amidst an eerily deceptive calm, F.B.I. agent Monica Bannan is abducted. Not only does the search for the missing woman ignite sparks between partners Scully and Mulder, it defies the boundaries of science, the supernatural and the terrifying spaces in between!
