English summary: Along with Elizabeth I, Henry VIII is considered one of the most powerful English monarchs of the 16th century. Through his far-sighted policies he succeeded in creating the basis for the 'English Empire'. Today this important ruler is mostly known for his many marriages. However, the foundation of the Church of England and Henry's disputes with Parliament, the nobility and other European leaders are of much higher significance. It was also during his reign that the early modern state, which would later go on to shape the following centuries, began to develop. The author only briefly outlines the king's life and marriages but subsequently focuses on presenting a thematically structured history of England during the first half of the 16th century as well as the diverse and ever-changing relationships between Henry and England on the one hand and the continent of Europe on the other. Jahrhunderts und auf die vielfaltigen und wechselnden Beziehungen Heinrichs wie Englands zum Kontinent Europa.
