Traitor (DVD)

This gripping tale deals with an always topical subject matter - Middle Eastern Terrorism, and the United States' attempts to root out the bad guys. What makes this story work though, is the fact that you're never quite sure if our protagonist, Samir Horn, is an undercover American agent or a disaffected former U.S. soldier who's embraced his Sudanese heritage and taken up the cause to become a full-blown terrorist.

The plot is gripping and fast-paced and throws up many a twist and turn for the audience. There's also quite a bit of action, although alot of the scenes are quite sensitive in this day and age of "real" terrorism, but they are handled quite adequately.

The performances are top-notch, with Cheadle as Samir bringing the right amount of mystery and sympathy to his role. Guy Pearce stars as the FBI agent who's on his trail, and he incorporates the typical "alpha-male" agent persona to his character, but it's never a dull cliche.

As it all builds to a frenetic climax with a major terrorist attack planned for the U.S., you'll be kept on the edge of your seat. And although you support the good guys, you get to also understand the "misled mentality" of some of the bad ones. Terrific entertainment! (4 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)

When straight-arrow FBI agent Roy Clayton investigates a dangerous international conspiracy responsible for a prison break in Yemen, a bombing in Nice and a raid in London, all clues seem to lead back to former U.S. Special Operations officer, Samir Horn.
