Following Eric Treacy's death in 1978, the demand for his books has
increased. So insistent have been the demands of his fans that
Portrait of Steam has been re-issued. Of this volume Eric Treacy
originally said: 'Some will say that there is too much in this
book; too much repetition. I agree, but I have been asked to
include some of my better known pictures. This is a "Portrait" - an
attempt to show the steam engine in every kind of setting and mood.
It is an impression rather than a balanced selection. 'It is my
tribute to all who have loved the steam engine; to those who have
designed, built, maintained, cleaned, fired and driven the steam
engine - that great kettle on wheels with its coal scuttle behind.'
