Bill Schiller, a 62-year-old disgraced CIA operative, wants to draw
blood. He longs for the chaos, the fear, the smell of burning
flesh, so he decides, instead of a comfortable retirement on his
pension from the government, to go into gangsterism. He hooks up
with super patriot Johnny McLendon, a man who physically resembles
a frog, but who wants to be treated like a dog and his chauffeur
Ronnie Gordon, fresh out of jail - the reason? Johnny McLendon can
get his hands on six million dollars in cash which he believes will
be used against the enemies of the good old U.S of A. Meanwhile,
Ray Justus and his partner Peanut Shoke and Ginger Loudermilk aka
Princess Naughty have other ideas. Ray is the owner of a Cadillac
Eldorado spotted at the scene of a recent slaying, and now cursed,
and Ginger is Peanut's beautiful trailer trash ex-girlfriend who's
a crack shot with a pistol and who Ray lusts after. Mix in a
psychopathic secret agent whose mother forced him to wear women's
clothes and an Italian hillbilly family who believe that their
mother was kidnapped by aliens and what you have is a comic crime
novel second to none. Willard's last novel Down On Ponce was
nominated for the CWA John Creasey award for the best first novel
of 1998 and should have won. This one should get a gold dagger.
