“HAPPY FEET” SOCKS IT TO YOU!
Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature, this is a happy tale about Mumble (Elijah Wood).
Every emperor penguin in the colony must sing what is called a “Heartsong” in order to attract a soul mate. Alas, Mumble cannot do this as he has a terrible singing voice! However, what he can do is tap-dance! But this is frowned on by the colony’s traditional-minded elders, who blame the lack of fish in the sea in their area on Mumble’s frivolity – just the way certain church elders blamed rock’n’roll for all the evils imaginable in the 1950s!
But Mumble correctly attributes the fish situation to “the aliens” (= humans), and he ventures far to prove his point – accompanied for some of the journey by girlfriend Gloria (Brittany Murphy), and a group of loony Mexican penguins. Once past the elephant seal colony, however, he is on his own.
Some of the subtleties of the picture (e.g. Mumble’s parents are named Elvis [Hugh Jackman] and Norma Jean [Nicole Kidman]; the elephant seals all have Australian accents, etc) may elude the very young…but they’ll really enjoy it all the same
Set deep in the heart of Antarctica, in a land ruled by singing emperor penguins, Happy Feet follows the adventures of tap dancing Mumble and his struggle to carry a tune. Cast out of the community for his strange dancing ways and alone for the first time in his life, Mumble sets out in search of his "heart song", which will ultimately lead him to his true love. Along his journey, Mumble meets the Adelies who immediately embrace his cool moves. Together with his new friends, Mumble encounters some epic adventures and soon finds that being true to himself can make all the difference in the world.

Brilliantly done! I loved the story line and the fact that environmental awareness was brought in. The music and singing excellent. The tale makes one think about conformism and individuality.
