Glory Road (DVD)

This inspiring true story, starring Josh Lucas and Jon Voight, tells a kind of a “David and Goliath” story of how a minor college’s basketball team – under a coach whose only previous experience had been with a girls’ netball squad – won the United States men’s Division 1 championship in 1966. What made the feat even more remarkable was that real-life coach Don Haskins (Josh Lucas) led the team with an all black starting line up – back in the days when very few Afro-Americans even played big league basketball, particularly in the Deep South!

It’s a tale of hardships and courage; of prejudice and perseverance…and while possibly not quite in the same league as Facing the Giants that deals with American gridiron football, it’s a similar kind of film. I give it four stars for sheer entertainment value alone.

Award-winning producer Jerry Bruckheimer (National Treasure, King Arthur) delivers another triumphant winner with this exciting and inspirational true story about one man who makes a difference!

Hollywood favorite Josh Lucas (Poseidon, Sweet Home Alabama) stars as Don Haskins, the charismatic coach of a tiny university, who bucks convention by recruiting the best players he can find who have been shunned by other coaches, even if that means integrating the team along colour lines.
