Director Frank Tashlin first established himself in aimated cartoons for Disney, Warners and Paramount back in the 1940s. Working later with live-actor comedians, his zany sense of homour first bubbled over into his writings for the Marx Bros; the 3 Stooges and many others: and then he went on to direct the likes of Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Tony Randall (to name but a few) in some extremely successful and very funny comedies. This, the first-ever rock'n'roll flick made by a major studio on a high budget, is often hailed as the finest r'n'r movie ever made!
Some of the humour is now a trifle dated; and although there are mild sexual innuendos, none of them offends (remember, this one was made back in 1956!) And regarding the obvious allusions to Jayne Mansfield's awesome 40-18-36 figure: rather than laighing at her: as she seems to be enjoying the joke too, we're actually laughing with her instead!
Musical performers who play themselves include Little Richard (who sings the credit titles song); Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps; Julie London; The Platters; Eddie Cochran; trumpeter Ray Anthony, and Fats Domino.
Essential viewing if you were a teenager during the 1950s; its a worthwhile preservation of the pop music of that era even if you weren't.
Among the many films attempting to capture the emerging rock 'n' roll sound, Frank Tashlin's high-voltage, candy-coloured satire on the 50s popular culture stands out as a masterpiece.
Featuring electrifying performances from rock 'n' rollers The Platters, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Fats Domino, cartoon director Tashlin's campy musical courses with the fantastic imagination of an animator.
A buxom Jayne Mansfield ably carries the film as the outrageously voluptuous and tone-deaf girlfriend of a retired racketeer - her first starring role; while Tom Ewell plays an alcholoic agent hired to transform the gangster's blond bombshell into a movie star.

If you are into early Rock 'n' Roll then this dvd will be of interest.
The movie is just a vehicle to show case the up and coming new musical trend of the day. Artists such as Little Richard, Eddie Cochran and the Platters display their talents...as does Jayne Mansfield but it another way.
