High School Musical 2 (DVD)

If you’ve already enjoyed the original High School Musical movie, you’ll be familiar with the characters. Needing money for his tuition fees, Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) lands a summer holiday job working at the affluent country club, Lava Springs – but he only takes it on condition that his girlfriend, Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) and the rest of the East High Wildcats can be employed there as well.

Still trying to come between Troy and Gabriella, is Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) – a blonde, skinny-legged girl who seems to have modeled herself on Paris Hilton. And together with her brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) who are both staying at the country club with their parents, she goes out of her way to make life as difficult as possible for Troy and his friends.

The musical numbers are up to the standard of the original, while the choreography is at least on par with that of Hairspray One of the best songs, “The Humuhumunkinunkualua,” that we get to see on the DVD, was inexplicably cut from the movie version.

Good-bye, classroom! Hello, summer! Join Troy, Gabriella, Chad, and Taylor for a country club experience which is no day at the beach. The gang are back and things are heating up on the lawns of high society.
