This classic confrontation between good and evil stars Kevin Costner as federal agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as gangland kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery as Malone, the cop who teaches Ness how to beat the mob: shoot fast and shoot first.
Brian De Palma's The Untouchables is a must see masterpiece - a glorious, fierce, larger-than-life depiction of the mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago and the law enforcers who vowed to bring him down.

The Untouchables

During America's “prohibition” days of the early 1930s, there really was an Elliot Ness, who headed up a team of incorruptable lawmen, who became known as “The Untouchables.” This could almost be a biography of a memorable piece of Eliot Ness's life, and he is faithfully portrayed by Kevin Cosner (having been portrayed on TV by Robert Stack some years back.) Ness and his men are devoting much of their time in trying to convict the notorius Al Capone (Robert deNiro) in connection with the illegal importation and selling of alcohol in America. (All they could find to send him to jail was a minor income-tax evasion charge!) Director Brian de Palma has created a true masterpiece with this picture, which is graphically violent in many parts...but that's how it really was in those times! Not surprisingly the film was nominated for four Oscars, of which it won one: to Sean connery, for his performance in the “Best Supporting Actor” category. And much as I like Connery, there couldn't have been much difference between his performance, and that of Robert de Niro! All it all, it has a good story; is superbly acted; flawlessly filmed and edited. And the cherry on top is the background music of the great Ennio Morriecone! The score is changed to compliment the mood of each and every scene that De Palma presents to us! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
