Although you only realise it right at the end, this comedy is geared to make you think. It amuses, educates, and irritates…though not necessarily in that particular order.
Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore) and Ben Murphy (John Krasinski) are desperately in love and want to get married after a six-month courtship. They shyly announce their engagement on Sadie’s parents’ thirtieth wedding anniversary. Sadie’s father (a still very young-looking Peter Strauss) then refers them to a “different” man of the cloth in the form of one Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) – who proceeds to put the couple through a three-week marriage-preparation crash course from hell! He not only bugs their room…but also puts all other kinds of challenges and other obstacles in the way of their proposed nuptials.
To me, the most satisfying part of the picture is that at the happy ending finale, the bride doesn’t get married at the traditional family church of her original choice!
Young engaged couple Ben Murphy (John Kransinski) and Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore) are forced to endure a treacherous marriage prep course as prerequisite to marriage. The outrageous course, administered by the overbearing Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) puts the couple’s relationship in jeopardy and ultimately compels them to gain a new understanding of what it really means to say “I Do.”
