Entertaining parlour game which enables you to beat the poetic
masters at their own craft. One player makes a random selection
from the book's verses and reads the first three lines; then the
other players must compose the final line. These are then read out
(along with the real line) and players must vote on which is the
genuine one. Poets featured here range from Shelley and Shakespeare
to Emily Dickinson and Christina Rosetti, each with a brief
biography. There are also verses for children and instructions for
more complex forms of the game. No knowledge of poetry is required
so this is a game for everyone to enjoy. (Kirkus UK)
A witty parlour game to be enjoyed by anyone who can think up a
rhyme. In its most simple form, it requires one player (the reader)
to read three lines of a four-line verse to the other players, all
of whom then write down their own idea for the fourth line. All
contributions are handed to the reader who reads them aloud,
together with the real line, without revealing the identities of
the authors. The players then vote on which is the best and ponits
are scored. Instructions for more complex versions of the game are
included, and there is a section of poems for children.
