My Butchers block smoking planks are used as a versatile cooking method where food is placed on top of a fragrant plank of wood to cook over a heat source. The plank or wood has a characteristic flavor and aroma that it infuses into the food as heat is applied. Plank board Braaing is popular with fish like salmon and others, but planks can be used with other meats, pizza, vegetables, fruits and cheese too. The result is juicy and moist flavour-filled and aroma-rich food.

Recipe:Spicy tomato roast chicken pieces

Spicy Tomato Roast Chicken Pieces



6-8 Free range chicken pieces

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 onion, finely chopped

1 Tbsp thyme, chopped

2 tsp oregano, chopped

1-2 hot red chillies, adjust to taste

1 tsp cayenne pepper

1 Tbsp honey

2 tsp ground coriander

1x400g tin chopped tomatoes

1 lemon




  • Soak cherry plank in water overnight or for at least an hour.

  • Sweat garlic, onion, thyme and oregano in butter. Add remaining ingredients except lemon. Cook sauce until thickened. Adjsut seasoning stir through a squeeze of lemon.

  • Season chicken with salt, and coat with tomato sauce.

  • Place braai planks on an open flame for 1-2 minutes on the side you will be arranging and braaing your dish.

  • Seal chicken on a braai grid, place on the braai plank then cover with kettle lid and braai for 20-30 minutes or until cooked through.

  • Glaze chicken pieces with extra sauce before serving.

Sticky Barbeque Pork Loin Chops


2x300g pork loin chops

4/5 cup tomato sauce

1-2 Tbsp tobasco sauce

1/5 cup Worcester sauce

2 Tbsp soya sauce

2 Tbsp oyster sauce

1/5 cup balsamic vinegar

1/3 cup molasses / honey

2 Tbsp mustard

2 Tbsp chopped coriander

2 - 3 Tbsp chopped ginger

4 garlic cloves, chopped

1-2 chillies, chopped

1 red onion, chopped



  • Soak cherry plank in water overnight or for at least an hour.

  • Combine all ingredients into bowl and mix. Season loins with salt and brush on marinade.

  • Place braai planks on an open flame for 1-2 minutes on the side you will be arranging and braaing your dish.

  • Seal loin chops on the braai then arrange on the braai planks. Cover with a kettle braai lid and braai to your liking, between 12-15 minutes. Baste with marinade continuously.

  • Allow meat to rest for 3 minutes before serving with extra sauce for dippping.
