Survival rates for cancer depend on where the patient lives and
whether they are rich or poor. This report presents trends for
almost 60 different cancers in adults and children in the eight
English NHS regions and Wales. It reports on the survival of almost
three million cancer patients and examines inequalities in cancer
survival in five categories of deprivation, from affluent to
deprived. The report should provide valuable information for
doctors in order to advise patients when planning their treatment,
for oncologists carrying out clinical trials to test the efficacy
of new cancer treatment regimes, for health care planners and
administrators, and for cancer patients themselves.
