A member of a family of vitamin B-like substances collectively known as inositol. However, unlike conventional inositol, d-Chiro-Inositol improves the body’s cellular response to insulin, making it useful for insulin resistant conditions such as metabolic syndrome, promoting weight loss and boosting energy levels. It is also beneficial for PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) in women.

Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Diabetic medications: D-chiro-Inositol may enhance the effectiveness of diabetic medicines, which may require an adjustment in dosage.
Carbamazepine: Carbemazepine reduces inositol levels in the brain, probably by inhibiting an enzyme involved in inositol synthesis.
Lithium: Lithium reduces inositol levels in the brain by inhibiting the inositol monophosphatase enzyme. The effect of lithium on brain inositol might contribute to its therapeutic effects in bipolar disorder. Use this combination with caution.
Valproic acid: Valproic acid reduces inositol levels in the brain by inhibiting the inositol phosphate synthase enzyme, which is involved in synthesis of inositol. The effect of valproic acid on brain inositol might contribute to its therapeutic effects in bipolar disorder.
