Very few things in my life have been as important or or left as lasting an impact as the humour of Spike Milligan. During the 1950s in the old pre-television steam-radio days: together with all but the most dour of my generation, I would simply live for the half-hour’s weekly jab-in-the-arm that “The Goon Show” would bring us on Wednesday evenings.


Alas, Milligoon himself may no longer be with us, but his delightfully nonsensical humour still lives on…to be repeatedly discovered time and time again by new and ongoing generations.


Here we have an all-too-short hour’s worth of his uniquely inventive nonsense…with side-splitting variations on the “Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup!” gag; a TV quiz show called Lose Your Furniture; the “read-all-about-it” great Fleet Street strike; an insects’ audition for the David Attenborough show; numerous subtle plays on word…and much, much more!


They certainly don’t write ’em like this anymore!

Spike Milligan, remembered for his turn in 'The Goons' and his 'Q' series' from the 1960s to the 1980s, looks back at his career with his tongue buried firmly in his cheek. Playing along with the camera crew's 'surprise' visit to his home, he quickly turns the situation to his surreal advantage and revels in his own lunatic humour whilst reviewing years of influential and crazy humour.
