The fourth season of this remarkably suspenseful, yet hilariously intriguing series manages to be even more darkly twisted than ever before. After the dramatic end to season three, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it wouldn't be possible to improve upon the format of the series, but the creators have.

All the main characters have ordeal after ordeal to cope with this time around. Susan realizes maybe Mike is not ready for suburban bliss and domestication soon leads him down a rocky road from which he may never escape. Gaby discovers that deep down she still loves Carlos and they proceed to have an extra-marital affair. To save her family's dignity, Bree tells a major lie which she has to keep up to fool everybody. And Lynette, after finding out last season that she has cancer, tries to make the best out of a bad situation. But she soon finds out, one needs the help of your friends to get you through these tough times.

There are two sets of new neighbours this season. Katherine Mayfair and her family return to Wisteria Lane after a long absence. But the mother is keeping some pretty dark secrets, and to make matters worse, she has the same demeanor and "go-getter" organizational attitude as Bree, which of course causes much tension and resentment when trying to outdo each other's pie recipes. And then there's Bob and Lee, a gay couple whom soon causes much awkwardness in the neighbourhood, especially for Susan. Her attempts at being friendly always seem to backfire and make her seem discriminatory.

Both sets of new arrivals play important cogs in this well-oiled machine. Many plotlines are kept realistically fun and entertaining. And even the major dramatic points are never beyond the unbelievable. One of the best episodes in the entire series is episode 9, titled "Somthing's Coming". That something is a tornado, and this episode is extremely exciting and also quite heartbreaking as a few of the Wisteria Lane residents succumb to this natural disaster. The series builds major momentum after this episode as we approach the climactic cliffhanger which heads off into unchartered territory, literally! The highly original ending will keep you gripped and eager for season five to come along. (5 out of 5, by Carlisle Johnson)

Review This Product

Thu, 6 Nov 2008 | Review by: Richard B.

This is a brilliant show. And just keeps getting better and better. Lynette is still my favourite character. And I just loved the tension between Katherine Mayfair and Bree Van Der Camp. "There's only room on this street for one of them".
