The editor of this book, thinks it necessary to inform the reader,
that he made considerable alterations in it, with a view to its
improvement. Many antiquated expressions were obliterated; many
grammatical errors corrected; and some of the poems placed at the
end of the meditations, on account of their being not at all
appropriate, were expunged from the work. Though these alterations
have been made-yet the spirit of the author has been invariably
maintained. William Nicholson
