Contemplative drama starring Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell. Broadway actress Reese Holden (Deschanel) is offered a handsome amount of money for the written correspondence between her deceased mother and reclusive father, who are both established and well-regarded writers. Returning to her family home in Michigan she finds her father (Ed Harris) living a sheltered life accompanied by his ex-pupil Shelly (Amelia Warner) and aspiring singer Corbit (Ferrell) who have taken on the responsibility of caring for the older man. But as she realises the extent of her father's loneliness and grief over the death of her mother, Reese is forced to confront the memories of her past and unearths a few family secrets along the way...
