An Introduction to Principles and Practice of Respiratory Medicine
is intended to be the first book read by postgraduates in
Respiratory and Internal Medicine. It represents a broad spectrum
of issues relevant to the clinician involved in managing
respiratory diseases. There is material for the basic researcher as
well as extensive material for the clinicians. This textbook will
appeal to both graduate and postgraduate students in Respiratory
Medicine, academicians and the clinicians managing patients in
their day-to-day practice.A broad spectrum of issues in Respiratory
Medicine is covered. The chapter on chest imaging is extensive with
more than 100 illustrations in a single chapter and outlines new
directions for the clinicians to approach interpretations of
images. Airway diseases section is equally extensive with few
chapters using the case-based problem-solving approach for easier
understanding. A comprehensive overview of the respiratory system
is presented thus making it easy to read and understand.
Microorganisms are used to make products such as antibiotics,
vaccines, steroids, alcohols and other solvents, vitamins, amino
acids, and enzymes. Microorganisms can even leach valuable minerals
from low- grade ores. Staphylococcus aureus able to protect
themselves against radicals and oxidants by producing carotenoid
pigments. A golden yellow pigment called staphyloxanthin which is a
precursor of - carotene has antioxidant and free radical scavenging
properties in both in vivo and in vitro models. The book consists
of evaluating the antioxidant property of pigment staphyloxanthin
produced by S. aureus isolated from bovine mastitis samples against
CCl4 induced stress in albino mice . The inference drawn in the
present study is based on morphological, antibiogram, biochemical
parameters of staphylococcus aureus and oxidative stress parameters
in albino mice. The book includes review of literature,
introduction, materials and methods, observations, discussion,
summary and conclusion and references"
This study was carried out at the Department of Microbiology and
Biotechnology Karnatak University, Dharwad. The bacterial strains
were collected from various clinical samples like urine, infected
blood, pus, wound swabs, catheters and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
from different inpatients of Karnatak Institute of Medical sciences
(KIMS), Civil Hospital, and local hospitals and Nursing Homes of
Hubli-Dharwad. One thousand fifty individuals were included in the
study, seven hundred and fifty males, and three hundred females. For
isolation and identification of Staphylococcus aureus the samples
were inoculated on nutrient agar and selective medium, mannitol
salt agar (MSA). The characteristic colonies producing golden
yellow or cream, round, raised regular colonies on nutrient agar
and yellow coloration around MSA were presumptively selected as
total of 675 Staphylococcus spp. isolates were procured. These
isolates were subjected for cultural, microscopical and biochemical
analysis for confirmation
A disease is an abnormal condition affecting the body of an
organism. It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious
disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as
autoimmune diseases. The diabetes nowadays causing more number of
deaths and creating more problems irrespctive age. This can be
controlled with proper diet and exercise that enhances or maintains
physical fitness and overall health and wellness. The traditional
system of medicine has given us those plants that can be used to
control and cure many diseases including diabetes. Indian system of
medicine has given more information about medicinal plants and its
uses. In present study Nymphaea odorata was used, which was
collected from Dandeli forest area of karnataka, India. Ayurveda,
sidda medicine, unani, homeopathy has revealed the some causes and
given some remedies for diabetes. The present study acknowledges
Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi for financial support under
DBT-IPLS, PURSE program. Department of Biotechnolgy, Dept of
Zoology, Karnatak University, Dharwad.I express my sincer gratitude
to lambert academic publshing house, Ge
Homicide is the most serious crime as old as civilization and
reported as early as in the Bible. Homicide is defined as killing
of one human being by another human being and is one of the leading
causes of unnatural deaths. Since ages the very reason or motive
for these killings has remained the same viz - lust for money,
women and land. To commit murder, two elements ("Mens - rea" which
means preplanning or afore thought and "Actus reus" which means the
actual execution) should work together to constitute the crime. The
various patterns of homicidal deaths include assault by sharp
weapon, blunt weapon, firearms, strangulation, homicidal hanging,
smothering, drowning, burns, poisoning etc. The incidence of
homicide is increasing world wide and the pattern is also changing
because of population explosion, changing life style, modern needs
of the man and easy availability of various type of weapons.Hence
the present study was taken up to know the pattern of injuries, age
and sex distribution of victims, relationship of victim with the
offenders, place of occurrence and motive behind the homicides etc.
