e-commerce systems.
A celebrated young British artist uses her gift to convey the
dignity and resilience of women survivors of violence in forgotten
corners of the world. This debut art book by British artist and
human rights activist Hannah Rose Thomas presents her stunning
portrait paintings of Yazidi women who escaped ISIS captivity,
Rohingya women who fled violence in Myanmar, and Nigerian women who
survived Boko Haram violence, alongside their own words, stories,
and self-portraits. A final chapter features portraits and stories
of Afghan, Ukrainian, Uyghur, and Palestinian women. These
portraits, depicting women from three continents and three
religions, are a visual testimony not only of war and injustice but
also of humanity and resilience. Many of the women have suffered
sexual violence; all have been persecuted and forcibly displaced on
account of their faith or ethnicity. Hannah Rose Thomas met these
women in Iraqi Kurdistan, Bangladeshi refugee camps, and Northern
Nigeria while organizing art projects to teach women how to paint
their self-portraits as a way to reclaim their personhood and
self-worth. She gives women their own voice both by creating a safe
space for them to share their stories and by using her impressive
connections to make sure their stories are heard in places of
influence in the Global North. Thomas uses techniques of
traditional sacred art – early Renaissance tempera and oil
painting and gold leaf – to convey the sacred value of each of
these women in spite of all that they have suffered. This symbolic
restoration of dignity is especially important considering the
stigma surrounding sexual violence. Hannah’s work attests to the
power of the arts as a vehicle for healing, remembering, inclusion,
and dialogue. Long after the news cameras have moved on to the next
conflict, this book shines a spotlight on the ongoing work of
healing and restoration in some of the most vulnerable and
marginalized communities around the world. All publisher
profits from this book will be donated to relevant charities.
This book introduces readers to multicriteria decision aiding
(MCDA) interventions used in complex situations. In each chapter,
expert analysts propose a piece of the puzzle, while the final,
complete puzzle offers an interesting reflection of the main
challenges and difficulties associated with decision aiding
interventions, as well as the different tools adopted in response.
Particular attention is given to the approaches used to identify
and overcome specific difficulties. Designed for analysts familiar
with several multicriteria methods but seeking detailed information
and experience, this book helps to elaborate and validate MC models
in real-life decision aiding interventions. In addition, it helps
novice analysts appreciate the difficulty of decision aiding and
use the available methods to reduce or control them with the help
of socio-technical approaches.
A dynamic new study in literary and dramatic influence,
Misreading Shakespeare defines and explores the relation between
two modern plays-Edward Bond's Lear and Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern Are Dead-and Shakespeare's King Lear and Hamlet.
While some see the modern plays as derivative, others claim that
they are as original as the Shakespearean plays. The effort to
define and explore this relationship is a challenge for critics and
readers alike. Here, Wagdi Zeid, a playwright and professor of
Shakespeare and drama, puts forth a theoretical perspective derived
from W. Jackson Bate and Harold Bloom's theories of influence.
Zeid's study manages to defi ne and explore not only this
intriguing and ambiguous relationship but the concept of
originality itself. Furthermore, while theorists like Bate and
Bloom are wholly concerned with just general statements and
concepts, Misreading Shakespeare goes inside the dramatic texts
themselves, and this practical aspect makes a big difference. Also,
neither Bate nor Bloom has tried to apply his theory to dramatic
texts.
Misreading Shakespeare offers readers both theory and practice.
Misreading Shakespeare was written for an eclectic audience,
including scholars of drama, theatre, Shakespeare, and literary
theory and criticism; playwrights and other writers striving for
originality; and theatrical artists and audiences alike.
Akhnaton, a pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty, is about to
challenge everything his people and culture hold dear in The Last
Pharaoh. Before his rule, Egyptians lived a life of slavery under
their rulers, who demanded abject submission. In a culture where
rulers are revered as gods, change comes slowly, if at all. The
pharaoh's grand vision of sweeping social reform is met with
violent hostility by the priesthood and every other power player in
the kingdom. When Akhnaton announces that he is, in fact, as mortal
and fallible as his subjects, his proclamation inspires rivalries
that would enthusiastically put his new mortality to the test.
Neighbors struggle with questions of faith, morality, and the
social order in Winter Dreams, a two-act play that could take place
in any small town in America. When a child preacher stirs up old
drama and rivalries, more questions than answers arise. Is he
really the voice of God, or are other forces at work? The New
Odyssey explores a darker future for humanity. In 1999-as the
flames of the disastrous Third World War cool, and the fourth
apocalyptic global war looms-a college professor summons Hesiod,
Homer, and Shakespeare. He argues passionately to enlist their help
in a bold plan to save humanity from its eventual destruction-at
the hand of womankind. If he can get these three minds from
humanity's past in on his scheme, there may be hope for mankind's
future yet.

This book examines the work of two major poets who wrote in the
second half of the twentieth century, Yves Bonnefoy of France and
the Syrian-born Adonis (born Ali Ahmed Said). In conducting close
readings of key moments from their respective poetry, the author
illustrates how both of these writers, in their own unique ways,
construct poetry as a form of spiritual practice, that is, as a way
of transforming both the poet's and the implied reader's
ontological, perceptual and creative relationships with their
internal and external worlds.

'The greatest living poet of the Arab world' Guardian Cloud,
mirror, stone, thunder, eyelid, desert, sea. Through a dead or
dying land, Mihyar walks: a figure of heroic individualism and
dissent, part-Orpheus, part-Zarathustra. Where he goes, the austere
building-blocks of his world become the expressions of passionate
emotion, of visionary exaltation and despairing melancholy. The
traditions of the Ancient Greeks, the Bible and the Quran flow
about and through him. Written in the cosmopolitan Beirut of the
early 1960s, Adonis's Songs of Mihyar the Damascene did for Arabic
poetry what The Waste Land did for English. These are poems against
authoritarianism and dogma, in which a new Noah would abandon his
ark to dive with the condemned, and in which surrealism and Sufi
mysticism meet and intertwine. The result is a masterpiece of world
literature. Translated by Kareem James Abu Zeid and Ivan Eubanks
'The most eloquent spokesman and explorer of Arabic modernity'
Edward Said
The vital signs are, by definition, the measurements of the body's
most basic functions. So far, the essential number of signs that
must be measured is not clear as some references consider that the
body temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate and breathing rate are
sufficient but other sources consider that the measurement of other
variables, such as the respiratory effort and oxygen saturation,
are also crucial to determine the health of the person. This book
is not intended to define the critical vital signs but presents the
correlation of these measurements with other variables as well as
the proposition of new methods to determine these variables. It
also proposes some innovative applications that relay on these
signs in a way to monitor and help the human being. Thus, this book
presents six chapters that deal first with the correlation between
the physical training and the blood pressure level among adults as
well as the stress effects for nurses on their vital signs. Added
to that, the influence of the vital signs to predict and detect
epileptical seizure and the analysis of neural mechanisms of major
depressive disorders will be also presented. As for the other
chapters, they go into some engineering applications related to
vital signs as the development of a smart syringe pump that
monitors the patient's crucial parameters and the introduction of a
novel system that monitors the driver's health and notifies health
care providers in case the driver has any health failure in order
to prevent cars accidents.

2,4-Bis(1-aziridinyl)-6-Chlor-s-triazin erwies sich auf grund

Toxizitat stellt jedoch eine spatere praktische Anwendung auf
Cellulose in Frage. Die mit Allylbromid erhaltene Allylcellulose
war selbst bei radikalischen Pfropfreaktionen so reaktionstrage,
dass Additionsreaktionen nicht moglich waren. Die Umsetzung von
Cellulose mit Chlorsulfonylisocyanat fuhrte aufgrund der hohen
Reaktivitat zu einem drastischen Abbau der Faser. 3) Mit Hilfe der
Chromatographie und massanalytischer Methoden wurde die Reaktivitat
von Hexahydro-1,3, S-triacryloyl-s triazin im Hinblick auf die
spatere Umsetzung mit Cellu lose untersucht. In wasserfreiem Medium
zeigt Hexahydro-1,3,5-triacryloyl s-triazin bei der Umsetzung mit
Modellsubstanzen wie Athanol und Athylmercaptan eine gewisse
abgestufte Reaktivitat. In sauren oder alkalischen wassrigen Medien
ist der Hexahydrotriazinring nicht stabil. Folgeprodukte sind je

The Iraqi Nights is the third collection by the acclaimed Iraqi
poet Dunya Mikhail. Taking The One Thousand and One Nights as her
central theme, Mikhail personifies the role of Scheherazade the
storyteller, saving herself through her tales. The nights are
endless, seemingly as dark as war in this haunting collection,
seemingly as endless as war. Yet the poet cannot stop dreaming of a
future beyond the violence of a place where "every moment /
something ordinary / will happen under the sun." Unlike
Scheherazade, however, Mikhail is writing, not to escape death, but
to summon the strength to endure. Inhabiting the emotive spaces
between Iraq and the U.S., Mikhail infuses those harsh realms with
a deep poetic intimacy. The author's vivid illustrations - inspired
by Sumerian tablets - are threaded throughout this powerful book.
