Botanical Painting with Coloured Pencils (Hardcover): Ann Swan Botanical Painting with Coloured Pencils (Hardcover)
Ann Swan

This beautifully illustrated book is the first practical step-by-step guide to using coloured pencils in botanical painting and is written by Ann Swan, one of the top exponents of the genre. Water-soluble and oil-based coloured pencils are becoming increasingly popular for botanical painting as they are easier to use than traditional watercolour and are more forgiving, yet they produce the same stunning effects. They are especially suitable for the accuracy needed to paint in the botanical style of illustration. In this book Ann Swan gives helpful advice on all aspects of working with coloured pencils, including the techniques you will have to master - underpainting, layering and burnishing. She also demontrates how to mix and build up colour, and how to add those finishing touches that will complete your painting successfully. Several full step-by-step demonstrations are included to show how these techniques are put into practice. The book concludes with a gallery of coloured pencil works by the author, students of botanical painting and other professional botanical painters, providing a wonderful source of reference and inspiration.

Reflecting the expert insight of leading names in the field, Perspectives in Ambulatory Care Nursing helps students confidently meet the challenges of a changing healthcare landscape and embrace their role in nursing outside of the hospital setting. Ambulatory care authorities Caroline Varner Coburn, Deena Gilland and Beth Ann Swan guide students through the evolution of nursing in ambulatory care settings - including the social and political forces driving an increased need for nurses in primary care - and detail how nurses can use research and data to change practice, demonstrate the impact of nursing and meet standards of excellence in ambulatory care. An ideal primer both for nursing students and practicing nurses switching from acute care positions to ambulatory care settings, Perspectives in Ambulatory Care Nursing clarifies the distinctions between the two care settings, familiarizes students with the variety of parts played by members of the healthcare team and identifies key topics in today's ambulatory nursing practice, including telehealth, care coordination/transition management and the involvement of clients and families in health management. Accompanying resources encourage students to think critically about ambulatory care concepts and consider real-world applications as they prepare for success in practice. Key Points summarize essential takeaways at a glance. Clear, concise chapters demonstrate key differences between acute and ambulatory nursing approaches. Case Studies with accompanying critical thinking questions challenge students to apply concepts to real-world ambulatory care scenarios. Discussion Questions encourage students to think critically and improve test-taking confidence.

Sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) is a major threat to women's participation in development efforts. This work examines the impact of displacement on gender relations and SGBV in patriarchal and post-conflict Northern Uganda. More than 20 years of civil war between the Lord's Resistance Army and the Government of Uganda have left their mark on the Acholi people. As a consequence of massive displacement, a large number of men have failed to live up to traditional notions of masculinity, whilst many Acholi girls and women have experienced sexual violence perpetrated both by soldiers and civilians. Through an assessment of local perceptions and experiences of rape, forced sex between intimate partners and transactional sex, this work sheds light on some of the causes of SGBV and the circumstances in which it occurs. It also addresses ways in which SGBV can be prevented, drawing on the experience of various NGO professionals in the field.
