This is an enhanced reprint of the most current edition. 80% of the existing images in the main section have been replaced and there is a new appendix containing over 100 coins that were not included in the last edition (this is the first ever attempt to update the information for over 30 years). Where there is new information, the main text contains references to the new appendix and some of the rarity ratings have also been adjusted. This new book is also slightly larger than previous versions, in an attempt to improve the quality of the images and ease of identification. In this book Mr Freeman articulately describes the differences between the obverse and reverse types of the subject matter. Where relevant there are tables of the possible combinations of reverses and obverses, often many combinations even for a single coin date. Proofs in bronze and other metals are also listed. Alterations to the dies, including changes to the date punches and major overstrikes resulting in letters/digits appearing to be struck on other letters or digits. Over 1000 different coins are listed, including patterns (both official and unofficial).Decimal coins have been removed from this edition (they were previously only listed from 1971 to 1983) and there are no values in this book, it is solely concerned with the varieties of bronze coinage. Each coin type in the main section and some of those in the new appendix are, as mentioned above, assigned an estimated rarity on a 41 point scale from 'believed unique' to many millions made.
Historically, coins have always been very lacking in colour, being made of a single piece of metal. The things they depict though; the faces, plants, heraldry, swords, ships, crowns, horses etc, are all actually very colourful in real life. Coins are therefore the ideal candidate to add colour to. Use this book to create realistic life-like coloured works of art, or go wild with them and colour them in your own fantastic style. Most of them have been waiting for centuries just for you to add a bit of colour! Suitable for all ages, with a few basic coin images and also some very intricate ones. Each coin is accompanied by a short paragraph of information.
"A Numismatic Journey through the Bible" is an attempt to bring the Bible to life in a new sort of way - by linking as many Biblical stories as possible to coins, many of which are common enough for us to be able to see, and often to actually own. In this way the author hopes to put readers in touch with events that, though they happened a long time ago, can still have great meaning for us today. The chapters are written in Biblical order. The Old Testament first, working through to the Book of Revelation at the end. Other material, relevant but not actually part of the Bible, is included in chapters between those dealing directly with the Bible itself. Each coin is illustrated with approximate values given in GBGBP and US$ and the book is packed with a wealth of background information about the Bible, in an easy to read style suitable for all ages.
British coins, their values and varieties, 1760 - 1970. CCGB2020 has fully updated valuations and contains more variety details on British coins than any other publication. With comprehensive listings of all British coins from the fractional farthing to the gold Five Pound coins, including all guineas and their fractions. Varieties are listed and described in detail, accurate market values in up to five states of preservation and annual mintage numbers. It includes the usual wealth of information about the coin weights, sizes and designers. The publisher believes this to be the most detailed coverage of the subject matter available.
This is a price-guide reference book containing up-to-date values, and lots of historical information on all campaign medals and related items awarded to British and their colonial and local allies from 1793 to 1902. Every significant campaign is covered, including details of the various clasps awarded. The images of medals and maps are full colour, and are often full page sized.
This price guide is a book for the collector rather than the scholar and, as such, has to be pocket-sized and inexpensive. It assumes that the reader will be more interested in assigning a coin to its proper period or Emperor than in working out the meaning of the design on the reverse and, therefore, whilst most of the usual obverse portraits and legends are illustrated, the reverses are dealt with in a much more cursory manner. As an aid to identification, all illustrations are as close to life-sized as possible. Remember, that often Roman coins are not completely circular like modern coins. Further, not all Roman base-metal coins are included. This is a selection of the available material, including the vast majority of the coins the collector is likely to encounter in 'real life'.
This is the b/w paperback version of "The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins" - the 'Where's wear' of British numismatics! The first book of its kind. A detailed photographic and descriptive record of the grades of all British modern milled pre-decimal coins (1797 to 1970). The grade of a coin dictates it's value. The age, type or specific date are all of less importance than the condition. But what is Fine, VF, EF or Uncirculated? If you are new to coin collecting or specialise in different coin types, how can you say without doubt that a coin is a certain grade? Until now you could only guess. Now, at least you can make a very educated guess based on the images shown in "The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins". The photos of every obverse and reverse type are illustrated at 2x or greater magnification and the text describes where to look for the wear first. An invaluable guide to anyone who collects coins, especially at the moment, with huge amounts of overgraded coins being offered on the internet.
