"Pulp Science Fiction" reads like a wild Saturday afternoon sci-fi double feature matinee from the "50s " "The passenger cleared his throat as he began his message. "Mom. Mom, it's me. I don't have a lot of time, so please listen to me carefully. I'm not at school. I'm on my way to Buffalo to meet a woman who can help me stop something unimaginable. Mom, you've got to get out of the condo. You've got to get out of Lawrence. Just grab what you can and hire a cab and head west, as far and as fast as you can go. There is going to be an explosion. An airplane with a bomb in it is going to kill you and everyone around you. Mom, you've got to believe me. Mom, get out of there Mom."" "The passenger took a deep breath and continued." ""Mom, something fantastic has happened to me. I don't know why or how, but it's been astonishing. Mom, I know we haven't talked about this much lately, but I love you and I want you to be okay."" "For the first time since his episode on the sidewalk, he shed a tear-not out of self-pity-but out of happiness, because for the first time he felt that he had something important to lose, and life suddenly mattered to him."
In English translations that achieve a lively readability without sacrificing the dramatic and comic impact of the original Latin, this volume presents all six comedies: "The Girl from Andros" (Andria), "The Self-Tormentor" (Heautontimorumenos), "The Eunuch" (Eunouchus), "Phormio"s, "The Brothers" (Adelphoe), and "Her Husband's Mother" (Hecyra). "Terence's comedies sparkle and delight."--Tina Howe. "In the gifted hands of these translators, Roman comedy turns to English comedy of the finest."--Robert Fagles, Princeton University.
Mental health providers are essential to the Department of Defense's (DOD) delivery of health care to servicemembers and other beneficiaries. DOD's need for these providers has grown as increasing numbers of servicemembers experience life-threatening combat situations. This led to congressional attentionsuch as the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2010, which included provisions to help DOD increase the number of mental health providers it employs. This book examines how staffing levels changed in response to congressional direction; and how DOD and the military services assess current and future needs for mental health providers. Furthermore, this book reviews the extent to which Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers (VAMC) have implemented the Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) nurse staffing methodology; and VHA oversees VAMCs' implementation and ongoing administration of the methodology.
Trench Phillips and the English Muffin McGuffin! Trench brings a contemporary, unorthodox, and drop-dead funny approach to solving the unspeakable wrongdoings in today s hyper-criminal era from armed predator drone attacks, to lethal doses of a heavy metal poison being dumped into the country s water supplies, to catastrophes at The Civilian Interstellar Test Center. As the dangers climb and the bodies drop, Phillips becomes the only player left on the field in a very unsporting high stakes game between treachery and triumph that will both delight and dare mature fans of gritty, hardboiled detective action!
