This rollicking and slightly absurd comedy from director Jesse Peretz (FIRST LOVE, LAST RITES) begins when Tom Reilly (Zach Braff) loses his promising chef job at a swanky New York restaurant. He is compelled to move to small-town Ohio to take a job with his father-in-law (Charles Grodin) at an advertising agency to support his wife, Sofia (Amanda Peet), and newborn son. Tom's adjustment to the rhythms and rituals of the office world is awkward at best, and complicated by the presence of an old high-school flame of Sofia's (Jason Bateman), a passive-aggressive paraplegic who schemes to get Sofia back. Meanwhile, Sofia must cope with the shock of switching roles from powerful big-city lawyer to stay-at-home suburban mother. Young working parents will identify with the familiar conflicts presented here as the embattled Tom and frustrated Sofia struggle to make sense of their new responsibilities. Braff purveys his patented nerdy charm as a nice guy whose behaviour becomes more and more manic as the rug gets continually pulled out from under him, and Peet is a lovely screen presence even as her character's patience and enthusiasm fade in less than attractive ways. Their performances blend wry intelligence with out-and-out slapstick, and they are supported by a superb ensemble cast including Amy Poehler, Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, Donal Logue, and Mia Farrow. While some of the situations and jokes border on tasteless, it's the smart kind of gross-out humor of a Farrelly Brothers or Jay Roach film, and the film never never loses its heart, as embodied by Braff and Peet.

Double bill featuring two spoof comedies. 'Epic Movie' (2007) tells
the tale of four fully grown orphans: one the victim of snakes that
attacked her plane, another raised by a kindly Louvre curator, the
third a Mexican 'libre' wrestling refuge, and the last an average
mutant from an 'X'-community. When the curious quartet visits a
sprawling chocolate factory, they stumble across a magical wardrobe
which transports them to the enchanted land of Gnarnia. It seems
that the wondrous fantasy land has recently fallen under the spell
of the evil White Bitch (Jennifer Coolidge), and in order to bring
peace back to Gnarnia these four bumbling mortals will have to join
forces with a charismatic pirate, a painfully sincere group of
aspiring wizards, and one particularly libidinous lion. 'Date
Movie' (2006) stars Alyson Hannigan as a hopeless romantic who has
finally met the man of her dreams Grant Funkyerdoder. But before
they can have their 'Big Fat Greek Wedding', they'll have to 'Meet
the Parents', hook up with 'The Wedding Planner' and contend with
Grant's girlfriend, Andy, a spectacularly beautiful woman who wants
to put a stop to her 'Best Friend's Wedding'.

Betrayed by his childhood friend Fernand (Guy Pearce), sailor
Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is found guilty of trumped-up charges
and sent to the island prison of Chateau d'If. Thirteen years
later, having learnt the art of fencing from the Abbé Faria
(Richard Harris), a fellow inmate who also revealed to him the
location of a vast treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo,
Edmond realises that the time has come and carries out a daring
escape attempt. Taking the treasure for himself, he reappears as
the Count of Monte Cristo and becomes the talk of Parisian society;
but he soon learns that Fernand has married Mercédès (Dagmara
Dominczyk), Edmond's own childhood sweetheart, and starts drawing
up his plans for revenge.
A double-helping of Sandra Bullock comedies. In 'Miss Congeniality'
(2000), when the Miss United States beauty pageant receives a
threat from a notorious criminal, hardnosed FBI agent Gracie Hart
(Bullock) is assigned to go undercover as a contestant in the
competition and track him down. Gracie is none too happy about
this, and when top expert Victor Melling (Michael Caine) arrives to
help transform her from a tomboy into a convincingly elegant Miss
New Jersey, she proves to be a most difficult student.
Nevertheless, after Gracie enters the pageant, she soon forms a
strong bond with her fellow contestants, and begins to worry for
their safety as the killer continues to elude arrest. In the
sequel, 'Miss Congeniality 2' (2005), things haven't been going so
well for Gracie lately. Reeling from a broken romance and
frustrated to find her newfound fame is jeopardizing the undercover
work she loves, Gracie reluctantly agrees to serve the Bureau in
the only way possible: coifed and styled for the talk show circuit
as 'the face of the FBI'. Though resistant at first, she soon warms
to the attention and it's not long before she's getting into her
new role a little too much. Her new partner Sam Fuller (Regina
King), a tough, ambitious agent who is clearly not her biggest fan,
is the first to point out that the pampered Bureau star is turning
into FBI Barbie. But when Gracie's best friend, pageant winner
Cheryl Frazier (Heather Burns), and emcee Stan Fields (William
Shatner), are kidnapped in Las Vegas, Gracie's crime-fighting
instincts kick back in. Not wanting to risk losing their greatest
PR asset, the FBI top brass forbid her to get involved and charge
Sam with keeping her in line. But when it comes to breaking a
difficult case and helping her friends, there's nothing Gracie
won't do.
Family comedy. High school student Melanie Porter (Raven-Symone)
has always come top of the class, and now looks forward to choosing
the perfect college to turn her dreams of becoming a high-flying
lawyer into reality. She comes up with the idea of taking to the
road in order to visit all the potential colleges on her list - but
what she hasn't bargained for on this trip of a lifetime is the
company of her over-protective police chief father, James (Martin
Lawrence), who is far from ready to let his precious daughter loose
upon the world.
