As the exiled heir to the throne of the fictional kingdom of Laurentia, Prince Richard (Flynn) has found peace through his love for ordinary woman Marta Karillos (Neagle). Young Jim Hawkins (Bobby Driscoll) finds himself set for adventure on the high seas when he is entrusted with a treasure map by ailing pirate Billy Bones.The map shows the location of treasure buried by Bones' former captain, Flint. Other members of Flint's crew are also after the booty, so Jim is accompanied by Squire Trelawney and Doctor Livesy as they make their way by sea to the island where the treasure is hidden. However, some of Flint's crew, led by the one-legged John Silver (Robert Newton), have managed to inveigle their way aboard Jim's ship as crew members, and will stop at nothing to get their hands on the treasure.

When the TARDIS lands on the planet Marinus, the Doctor (William Hartnell), Ian, Barbara and Susan are captured by Arbitan, Keeper of the Conscience of Marinus. The Conscience is an all-powerful machine which controls the planet in an attempt to regulate crime, but it requires four missing crystals to complete its function. Otherwise, the machine could fall into the hands of the Voord, led by the evil Yartek. The TARDIS crew are thus charged by Arbitan with recovering the crystals before it is too late.

One of several adaptations of Conan Doyle's classic tale, this one is considered to have the best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, by Peter Cushing. Holmes is called in when Sir Charles Baskerville seemingly falls prey to the family curse: a hell-hound which is said to haunt the moors of Devon. However, rather than investigate personally, Holmes opts to send his trusted colleague Doctor Watson (André Morell) to take up residence at Baskerville Hall to protect Sir Charles' heir, Sir Henry Baskerville (Christopher Lee) and attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery. But Holmes is not far away and on-hand to unravel the mystery.
