Dr Kusumoto s unique new book takes a step-wise, patient-centered approach to guide readers through the thought process required during an electrophysiology study and the development of new findings. * Follows a case based step-wise approach focused on the EP lab that allows readers to follow along with the thought process behind how experienced electrophysiologists first diagnose, then prepare, treat and manage patients with common rhythmic abnormalities, including atrial fibrillation * Written by award-winning Mayo Clinic Physician-educator Dr. Fred Kusumoto * Ideal for fellows, new EPs, nursing and technical staff in the EP lab * Includes clinical questions to help readers test their understanding of the steps and concepts covered in the book and prepare for certification exams
This is a book for any care provider - from advanced students and nurses to residents and even specialists - who needs to master the interpretation of ECGs, especially while "on the spot" at the point of care. This easy-to-use, visual guide takes a novel approach, foregrounding the visual clues or "keys" that readers can learn to recognize in ECGs and thus make rapid decisions about next steps at the point of care. The comparatively minimal text focuses on "must-know" information about the underlying cause of ECG abnormalities. This title is also available as a mobile App from MedHand Mobile Libraries. Since the publication of the first edition of Cardiac Pacing for the Clinician, the use of implantable cardiac devices has expanded rapidly. Certain classes of devices such as implantable loop recorders and cardiac resynchronization pacing systems were not commonly used when the first edition was published, and recent studies have shown that implantable cardioverter defibrillators are beneficial in large, previously unrecognized patient populations at risk for sudden death. In order to meet this demand, cardiologists without special training in electrophysiology or pacing are implanting an increasing number of cardiac devices. It is in this rapidly evolving setting that Cardiac Pacing for the Clinician, Second Edition is being undertaken.
The main focus of this volume will be to provide a practical discussion of the a oenuts and boltsa of implantable cardiac devices. The target audience will be cardiologists in practice and in training as well as nurses, technologists and industry. In addition, it will benefit physicians preparing for certification.
Additions to the new edition will include: Chapters discussing new cardiac devices; Implantation of Left Ventricular Leads for Cardiac Resynchronization Pacing Systems; Identification of Candidates for Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy; Follow-Up Issues in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy; Implantable Loop Recorders.
Updates to the existing chapters will include: New Trial Information & Follow-Up of the Newest Generation of Defibrillators; Use of Defibrillators in Patients at Increased Risk for Sudden Cardiac Death due to Long QT Syndrome, Brugada Syndrome and Congenital Heart Disease; Updates to Lead Extraction a" NewTechniques and Tools; Cardiac Pacing chapter will shift focus to Cardiac Devices.
This new edition of Cardiac Pacing for the Clinician, Second Edition will become a valuable resource to the general cardiologist and cardiology fellow by providing practical information for managing patients with complex cardiac devices.

This practical "how-to" manual for interpreting electrograms and understanding how they relate to the more easily understood/obtained electrocardiogram (ECG) is designed to be used in electrophysiology laboratories and during preparation for certification tests. Clear enough to be understood by the novice, this inexpensive paperback is suitable for use by nurses and cardiovascular technicians working in the electrophysiology laboratory, as well as physicians who are interested in practical aspects of electrophysiology. Written by an award-winning teacher, it offers short, succinct chapters with bullet-point summaries and review questions to aid retention.
Over the last decade, there has been a tremendous improvement in our understanding of basic cardiac electrophysiology. Most introductory ECG books teach via pattern recognition and do not incorporate new pathophysiologic information.
There is a great need for a simple book that teaches electrocardiography from a pathophysiologic basis. The proposed paperback book will be small format, concise, and 200-pages in length. It can be utilized as a reference - chapter by chapter or read throughout for an overview. Each chapter will feature ten questions that will provide a chapter review. Ten case studies will be highlighted at the end of the book that will integrate the multiple principles of electrocardiography.
