The Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts finds himself
embroiled in a messy, high stakes, politically charged, divorce
case where he is pitted against Attorney Ted Eldridge, a lawyer
whom he has alienated in the past and who now seeks to bring the
Governor down. Genetic markers raise the question of paternity of
Danny, the twelve year old child of the Governor and his wife
Emily, who herself is battling her own demons. As the case unfolds,
the events that involve the Governor and his paramour, the Judge
sitting on his case, and the Italian bookies in Boston's North End
play themselves out in a dramatic, courtroom whirlwind of
controversy and intrigue. The characterizations ring true and the
flaws of the participants are demonstrated in graphic detail in
this suspenseful narrative. Interwoven in the plot is the
heartbreaking revelation of the terrible inadequacy of the
Massachusetts divorce system as related in the author's action
sequences played out in open court and behind closed doors in the
elegant high rises of downtown Boston. The author, himself a former
Massachusetts divorce court judge, expertly provides a courtroom
showcase that is graphic, compelling and impressively accurate.
What elevates the novel in addition, is the interesting
descriptions of the City of Boston including the financial
district, the State House and Beacon Hill where the action occurs.
Gerald D. McLellan has written another legal thriller wrapped up in
Sicilian crime, the Chicago mafia, and boxed into a high-powered
Boston container which explodes with family conflicts, ignited by
violence, courtroom drama, and intrigue. Emilio Barsanti, a third
generation racketeer, suddenly finds himself faced with the most
challenging fight of his life: a trial in Massachusetts Family
Court for the custody of his son, Gregory-and the inheritance of
billions of dollars being held in trusts from the estates of his
father and grandfather. Both his father and his grandfather put
their estates in trust to be inherited by Emilio only after he
produces an heir. Former Judge Ted Eldridge, turned trial partner
in a downtown Boston law firm, is hired to represent Doctor Elliott
McCord and his wife, Sarah, in a nearly impossible quest for them
to become the permanent guardians of Gregory Dobson. His mother,
Jennifer Dobson, who is Sarah's sister, battles her own demons
while staking her claim for custody in a trial that brings together
six participating lawyers to determine the fate of Gregory Dobson.
The action in A Silent Cry spans the globe, from Abu Dhabi and
Gibraltar to the Norfolk County Courthouse, spinning a web of
intrigue and excitement.
A Permanent Bond is an international and legal thriller which
explodes a conflict between a shipbuilder in the Republic of China
and one in the United States over the acquisition of a
revolutionary discovery: an epoxy that bonds enormous sheets of
steel, saving millions of dollars in labor costs during the
construction of large container vessels.
Ben Leavitt, an M.I.T. graduate who has spent years in his loft
configuring his formula, now faces a divorce from his neglected
wife who, with their eighteen year old son, has moved into posh
quarters on Louisburg Square on Beacon Hill, Boston, with her
boyfriend.
The riveting story details the activities of Chinatown in
Boston, the smuggling of immigrants through the foggy marshes and
wooded forests of the twenty-eight mile Indian Territory which
spans both sides of the United States and Canadian borders, the
kidnapping of Ben's son, Adam, and the struggle between two warring
Boston Tongs for approval from Beijing.
