Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Within this context, big data analytics (BDA) can be an important
tool given that many analytic techniques within the big data world
have been created specifically to deal with complexity and rapidly
changing conditions. The important task for public sector
organizations is to liberate analytics from narrow scientific silos
and expand it across internally to reap maximum benefit across
their portfolios of programs. This book highlights contextual
factors important to better situating the use of BDA within
government organizations and demonstrates the wide range of
applications of different BDA techniques. It emphasizes the
importance of leadership and organizational practices that can
improve performance. It explains that BDA initiatives should not be
bolted on but should be integrated into the organization's
performance management processes. Equally important, the book
includes chapters that demonstrate the diversity of factors that
need to be managed to launch and sustain BDA initiatives in public
sector organizations.
This textbook develops a coherent view of differential equations by
progressing through a series of typical examples in science and
engineering that arise as mathematical models. All steps of the
modeling process are covered: formulation of a mathematical model;
the development and use of mathematical concepts that lead to
constructive solutions; validation of the solutions; and
consideration of the consequences. The volume engages students in
thinking mathematically, while emphasizing the power and relevance
of mathematics in science and engineering. There are just a few
guidelines that bring coherence to the construction of solutions as
the book progresses through ordinary to partial differential
equations using examples from mixing, electric circuits, chemical
reactions and transport processes, among others. The development of
differential equations as mathematical models and the construction
of their solution is placed center stage in this volume.

Renowned for their elaborate and dazzling plumages, the birds of
paradise (Paradisaeidae) and bowerbirds (Ptilonohynchidae) exhibit
some of the most astonishing behaviours in the avian kingdom. The
former is the most iconic group of birds found in New Guinea, while
the bowerbirds extend into Australia, and are perhaps best known
for the males' construction of avenue bowers, used to tempt females
on the forest floor. This comprehensive monograph is dedicated to
these two families, combining the product of more than two decades
of research and scholarship with original observations by the
author and many other knowledgeable contributors. Birds of Paradise
and Bowerbirds is the ultimate reference to these two groups. It
provides a thorough guide to their identification, taxonomy and
ecology, with detailed distribution maps accompanying the text. A
series of beautifully illustrated plates by Richard Allen cover all
of the 108 recognised taxa in these groups, with these supplemented
by more than 200 photographs covering a range of racial and
age-related plumage variety. This book is an indispensable addition
to the libraries of all birders and ornithologists interested in
these sensational birds.

Deposition and aggregation of small solid particles are encountered
in many natural and industrial environments. Whether it be
deposition of particles onto a surface immersed in a liquid
suspension or aggregateion of individual particles, these processes
are of enotmous significance. They are vital to the manufacture of
magnetic tape, purification of water using packed bed filters,
selective capture of solids, cells and macromolecular species, and
many other applications.
This book presents a unified approach to the measurement,
modelling and simulation of these processes, bringing together the
disciplines of colliod and surface chemistry, hydrodynamics, and
experimental and computational methods. It will be required reading
for graduates working in process and environmental engineering,
postgraduates involved in industrial R & D and for all
scientists wishing to gain a more detailed and realistic
understanding of process conditions in these areas.
