The best informal de?nition of the Semantic Web is maybe found in the May 2001Scienti?cAmericanarticle"TheSemanticWeb"(Berners-Leeetal. ),which says"TheSemanticWebisanextensionofthecurrentWebinwhichinformation is given well-de?ned meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation. " People who work on the Semantic Web quite often base their work on the famous "semantic web tower", a product of Tim Berners-Lee's inspiring drawing on whiteboards. The lowest level is the level of character representation (Unicode) and the identi?cation of resources on the Web (URIs). The highest level concerns the problem of trusting information on the Web. Somewhere in the middle of the tower is the logic level. It addresses the problem of represe- ing information on the Web in a way so that inference rules can derive implicit information from explicitly stated information. The workshop "Principles and Practices of Semantic Web Reasoning" (PPSWR 2004) addressed problems on this level. It took place in September 2004 as a satellite event of the 20th Int- national Conference on Logic Programming (ICLP) in St. Malo, France. After PPSWR 2003 in Mumbai, India, it was the second workshop in this series. This book contains the articles presented at the workshop.

R3,085 Discovery Miles 30 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Joint Conference on Qualitative and Quantitative Practical Reasoning, ECSQARU-FAPR'97, held in Bad Honnef, Germany, in June 1997.
The volume presents 33 revised full papers carefully selected for inclusion in the book by the program committee as well as 12 invited contributions. Among the various aspects of human practical reasoning addressed in the papers are nonmonotonic logics, default reasoning, modal logics, belief function theory, Bayesian networks, fuzzy logic, possibility theory, inference algorithms, dynamic reasoning with partial models, and user modeling approaches.

R1,637 Discovery Miles 16 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume gives the proceedings of the sixteenth German Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held in the Gustav Stresemann Institute in Berlin from August 31 to September 3, 1992. The volume contains 24 papers presentedin the technical sessions, 8 papers selected from the workshop contributions, and an invited talk by D.M. Gabbay entitled "Howto construct a logic for your application." Topics discussed in the technical papers include: a model elimination calculus, a sorted logic, human theorem proving, deduction based on Shannon graphs, expert system applications, knowledge engineering, time interval networks, forward logic evaluation, concept support, heuristic inductivegeneralization, language engineering, feature logic, similarity assessment, and many others.

R3,041 Discovery Miles 30 410 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume constitutes the proceedings of the First International Conference on Temporal Logic (ICTL '94), held at Bonn, Germany in July 1994.
Since its conception as a discipline thirty years ago, temporal logic is studied by many researchers of numerous backgrounds; presently it is in a stage of accelerated dynamic growth. This book, as the proceedings of the first international conference particularly dedicated to temporal logic, gives a thorough state-of-the-art report on all aspects of temporal logic research relevant for computer science and AI. It contains 27 technical contributions carefully selected for presentation at ICTL '94 as well as three surveys and position papers.
