This book, now in a revised and updated second edition, covers the
full spectrum of clinical applications of SPECT/CT in the diagnosis
and therapy planning of benign and malignant diseases. All chapters
have been thoroughly updated and some chapters have been completely
rewritten by a new group of experts. The opening chapters discuss
the technology and physics of SPECT/CT and its use in dosimetry.
The role of SPECT/CT in the imaging of a range of pathologic
conditions is then addressed in detail. Applications covered
include imaging of the thyroid, neuroendocrine tumors, bone,
cardiac scintigraphy, sentinel node scintigraphy and imaging of the
lungs. Individual chapters are also devoted to therapy planning in
selective internal radiation therapy of liver tumors and to
Bremsstrahlung SPECT/CT. For Nuclear Medicine Physicians,
Radiologists and medical students in this field, the book offers an
essential and up-to-date source of information on this invaluable
hybrid imaging technique.
99mTc-sestamibi is a single-photon emission computed tomography
(SPECT) radiotracer that is widely used for the imaging of
myocardial perfusion, as well as a variety of malignant and benign
diseases. 99mTc-Sestamibi - Clinical Applications provides a
detailed and informative overview of almost all the oncologic and
non-oncologic applications of 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT, including
several relatively rare indications. Different disease-related
protocols for 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT are presented, and for each
disease a comprehensive summary of the relevant pathology and
epidemiology is provided. Throughout, there is a strong emphasis on
the practical aspects of use of this popular tracer, including
instructions for the preparation of several commercially available
tracer kits. Clinical practitioners will find this book to be an
invaluable guide to the application and benefits of 99mTc-sestamibi
SPECT in both the inpatient and the outpatient setting.
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) cameras have
revolutionarily changed nuclear imaging techniques and given us new
diagnostic possibilities. They provide images that reveal subtle
information about physiological and pathological processes. For
some indications like cardiac and brain imaging, as well as tumour
imaging, the importance of SPECT compared to planar imaging is
beyond words. This book covers a broad spectrum of clinical
applications of SPECT in the diagnosis of benign and malignant
diseases. The opening chapters discuss the technology and physics
of SPECT and its use in dosimetry. Applications covered include,
among others, imaging of the bone and lungs, imaging of
neuroendocrine tumours, cardiac imaging and brain SPECT for
different indications like brain tumours and epilepsy. In each
chapter, different radiopharmaceuticals for SPECT imaging were
discussed and the scan procedures described. Readers will find this
book to be a useful source for often performed SPECT imaging in the
clinical routine.
