This book volume sheds light on the health benefits of selected cereal grains, processing technologies of cereals, specific roles of bioactive compounds of cereals in chronic disease prevention, and traditional and latest technologies to improve the functional benefits of cereal-based products. It presents a thorough review of the functional components of some lesser known or forgotten cereals and their role in maintaining good health. With advancements in cereal science and technology, new methods of processing have emerged that help to preserve or even enhance the health-benefitting properties of cereal grains. Further, plant breeding and biotechnology have contributed greatly in improving nutritional quality and functionality of these grains. This book provides comprehensive information on the simple as well as advanced methodologies for enhancing the properties of cereals that benefit human health. Some new approaches such as bio-fortification and extraction of bioactives from cereals are also included in the text.

You might feel that this fight is too big for you. How on earth can you dismantle so many complex, long-standing systems of oppression? My answer: piece by piece. Brown Girl Like Me is an inspiring memoir and empowering manifesto that equips women with the confidence and tools they need to navigate the difficulties that come with an intersectional identity. Jaspreet Kaur unpacks key issues such as the media, the workplace, the home, education, mental health, culture, confidence and the body, to help South Asian women understand and tackle the issues that affect them, and help them be in the driving seat of their own lives. Jaspreet pulls no punches, tackling difficult topics from mental health and menstruation stigma to education and beauty standards, from feminism to cultural appropriation and microaggressions. She also addresses complex issues, such as how to manage being a brown feminist without rejecting your own culture, and why Asian girls - the second highest performing group of students in the country - aren't seen in larger numbers in universities and head offices. Interviews with brilliant South Asian Women of all walks of life as well as academic insight show what life is really like for brown women in the diaspora. Part toolkit, part call-to-arms, Brown Girl Like Me is essential reading for South Asian women as well as people with an interest in feminism and cultural issues, and will educate, inspire and spark urgent conversations for change.

Leishmaniasis is a major public health problem throughout much of the tropical and subtropical world. To date there is no vaccine against Leishmania and chemotherapy is the main weapon in our arsenal. There is an urgent need to identify novel chemotherapeutic targets and better drugs against Leishmania. In our search for effective antileishmanial lead molecules we have replaced empirical screening with rational drug design. Identifying suitable potential drug targets is essential for effective drug development.
Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera) is a major threat to intensive agriculture (Sigsgaard et al 2002). Its wide dissemination and pest status has been attributed to its polyphagy, and its ability to undergo both facultative diapause and seasonal migration (Fitt, 1989). Worldwide the annual control costs and production losses due to H. armigera amount to US $ 5 billion (Anonymous 2005b) while in India damage worth US $ 1 billion has been estimated (Subramanian and Mohankumar, 2006). This species is a key pest of Berseem seed crop in Punjab since 1940s. (Dhaliwal and Sidhu 1990). Severe infestation by H. armigera reduced seed yield by 70-80 per cent in the Amritsar district during 1969 (Singh et al 1973). Information on the population build up and development of H. armigera on these fodder legumes is scanty in literature and, thus, the present studies on H. armigera have been planned to study the population build up, comparative development and survival and food consumption of H. armigera on selected genotypes of Berseem, Lucerne and Shaftal.
One of the most versatile routes to the cyclic structures of many different sizes is through an important class of synthetic reactions called cycloadditions. In the book the detailed study and synthesis of (3+2) cycloaddition reactions of various azomethine N-oxides, (3+2), (5+2) cycloaddition reactions of various nitrile oxides, (2+2) cycloaddition reactions of various azomethines through Reformatsky reaction have been carried out. These reactions lead to variety of variously substituted heterocycles like isoxazole -4, 6-diones, oxazepin 1, 3-diones, isoxazoline-4, 6 -diones, azetidinones and also diaryl-N- -cyano amines. These have been identified by various characterization techniques like infrared, proton magnetic resonance spectra, mass spectra and elemental analysis."
A number of experimental methods had been developed till date to evaluate and study the periodic properties. To study these periodic properties theoretically we have developed a new linear approach. A mathematical periodic function has been developed to calculate atomic radii (covalent and vander Waal) of any element by knowing just its atomic number. This function consists of a common equation along with additional terms (correction factor) for different blocks (s, p, d and f) of periodic table. This function has been derived mathematically by relating different factors in form of correction factors which affect the atomic radii using graphs. It takes into accounts the chemical behaviour of all the elements in their respective groups and periods.
