This is the second of three related empirically based studies examining the broad range of issues raised by the use of economic sanctions. This volume provides a detailed examination of the impact of U.S. economic sanctions on China, Cuba, and Iran as well as the impact on the United States itself. Ashari, Forrer, Teegen, and Yang analyze whether or not these case studies in economic sanctions had been successful by measuring their historical impact and modeling their effectiveness. This book will be of particular interest to scholars, students, researchers, and the public policy community involved with international business and economics and international relations.
The more recent experiments with New Public Management, in various countries, have revealed that there were major differences among what a number of writers referred to as 'differential application' of systems and practices. It was suggested that these differences were a result of environmental considerations. But the major preoccupation of the earlier literature on New Public Management was with debates on whether the systems and practices of New Public Management had achieved success in the developed countries. Unfortunately, developing countries such as Mexico and countries in the Caribbean are largely neglected in the current literature. Policy Transfer, New Public Management and Globalization fills this gap. Focusing on policy transfer, new public management, and globalization, the contributors examine the problems and difficulties in introducing and implementing policies in small, plural, politically unstable societies.

In the past decades, USA metropolitan areas have experienced significant population growth and suburban development. At the same time, commuting time has lengthened and road congestion has increased. How to contain traffic growth in a context of suburban development has become a focus of urban transportation research and city and regional planning. This work interprets metropolitan wide commuting with a reference to the metropolitan wide growth trends. Three decades of census data (1980, 1990 and 2000) for two metropolitan areas (Boston and Atlanta) are used to illustrate the linkage between commuting and urban spatial development. A commuting spectrum method is developed to characterize urban spatial structure, particularly job-housing proximity, across space, over time and among different regions. The work recommends a constrained and balanced vision of urban growth for improving transportation efficiency. The work should be useful for researchers, planners and policy makers in the field of urban geography, urban transportation and city and regional planning.
