Mega-Pastor and media personality John Gray uses powerful Biblical principles to help you become your best self -- the person God created you to be.

In WIN FROM WITHIN, John Gray helps readers identify how best to handle the most difficult, challenging and yet necessary battle that we all face-our inner struggle to overcome the worst versions of ourselves. He offers biblical lessons to aid in combatting bad habits and limiting patterns so that the best version of ourselves emerges.

WIN FROM WITHIN gives practical application to the story recorded in Genesis of Jacob wrestling with the man at the River Jabbok, and through it readers will learn how to become the persons they were created to be. The persons God intended each of us to be develops as we face our inner battles.

With examples from his own life as well as his ministerial counseling, Gray provides a pathway to awakening. He includes strategies for confronting the past, how we have been labeled, who people have said we are, even who we think we are, so that we can win the battle and be who God intends us to be.

Jacob spent much of his life running and hiding from himself. At a certain point we, like Jacob, cannot run from our true selves anymore. We must stop and face ourselves if we are to become great. WIN FROM WITHIN helps us conquer our inner darkness and overcome such hindrances as fear, shame and guilt.

This powerfully biblical self-help guide will push us toward victory over our inner struggles. Winning will make us the persons we have always wanted to be, the persons we have dreamed about becoming, the persons God created us to be.

Despite the strenuous efforts to give women equal status in the workplace over the last few decades, tension between the sexes in the workplace remains as rampant as ever: during exit interviews many women, often leaving to start their own businesses, cite feeling undervalued or unappreciated at the office. Despite countless company initiatives, equality protocols, and gender seminars we have made little significant advancement. So why can't the sexes work together? In this fresh exploration of the relationships between men and women in the office, world-renowned expert on gender issues in the workplace, Barbara Annis, and John Gray, author of the number one relationship book of all time, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, team up to reveal the eight gender blindspots that create friction between the sexes at work. Annis and Gray use stories, science and research (including over 100,000 in-depth interviews of male and female executives in over 60 Fortune 500 companies) to expose the blindspots that cause misunderstandings, miscommunications, mistrust, resentment and frustrations. Filled with 'ah-ha' moments, Work with Me provides a blueprint for boosting your gender intelligence. It provides new insights and solutions that will help break down barriers and enable men and women to bridge their different values, build trust and increase their credibility with each other, at work and at home.

SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER 'A highly readable, fascinating book that jerks the debate on religion versus atheism right out of its crusted rut into the light of serious intellectual scrutiny' Observer A meditation on the importance of atheism in the modern world - and its inadequacies and contradictions - by one of Britain's leading philosophers 'When you explore older atheisms, you will find some of your firmest convictions - secular or religious - are highly questionable. If this prospect disturbs you, what you are looking for may be freedom from thought.' For a generation now, public debate has been corroded by a narrow derision of religion in the name of an often very vaguely understood 'science'. John Gray's stimulating and extremely enjoyable new book describes the rich, complex world of the atheist tradition, a tradition which he sees as in many ways as rich as that of religion itself, as well as being deeply intertwined with what is so often crudely viewed as its 'opposite'. The result is a book that sheds an extraordinary and varied light on what it is to be human and on the thinkers who have, at different times and places, battled to understand this issue.

With a new introduction by John Gray and striking new cover from the artist Stanley Donwood, the author of `Cocaine Nights' brings you the story of suburban London transformed into an exotic dreamworld. When a light aircraft crashes into the Thames at Shepperton, the young pilot who struggles to the surface minutes later seems to have come back from the dead. Within hours everything in the dormitory suburb is surreally transformed. Vultures invade the rooftops, luxuriant tropical vegetation overruns the quiet avenues, and the local inhabitants are propelled by the young man's urgent visions through ecstatic sexual celebrations towards an apocalyptic climax. In this characteristically inventive novel Ballard displays to devastating effect the extraordinary imagination that established him as one of Britain's most highly acclaimed writers. This edition is part of a new commemorative series of Ballard's works, featuring introductions from a number of his admirers (including Ali Smith, Iain Sinclair, Martin Amis and Ned Beauman) and brand-new cover designs from the artist Stanley Donwood.

The Cambridge Primary Review Research Surveys is the outcome of the Cambridge Primary Review England 's biggest enquiry into primary education for over forty years. Fully independent of government, it was launched in 2006 to investigate the condition and future of primary education at a time of change and uncertainty and after two decades of almost uninterrupted reform. Ranging over ten broad themes and drawing on a vast array of evidence, the Review published thiry-one interim reports, including twenty-eight surveys of published research, provoking media headlines and public debate, before presenting its final report and recommendations.

This book brings together the twenty-eight research surveys, specially commissioned from sixty-five leading academics in the areas under scrutiny and now revised and updated, to create what is probably the most comprehensive overview and evaluation of research in primary education yet published. A particular feature is the prominence given to international and comparative perspectives. With an introduction from Robin Alexander, the Review 's director, the book is divided into eight sections, covering:

  • children 's lives and voices: school, home and community
  • children 's development, learning, diversity and needits
  • aims, values and contexts for primary education
  • the structure and content of primary education
  • outcomes, standards and assessment in primary education
  • teaching in primary schools: structures and processes
  • teaching in primary schools: training, development and workforce reform
  • policy frameworks: governance, funding, reform and quality assurance.

The Cambridge Primary Review Research Surveys is an essential reference tool for professionals, researchers, students and policy-makers working in the fields of early years, primary and secondary education.

A prophetic warning against the foolishness of crusades, John Gray's Black Mass challenges our belief in human progress. Our conventional view of history is wrong. It is founded on a pernicious myth of an achievable utopia that in the last century alone caused the murder of tens of millions. In Black Mass John Gray tears down the religious, political and secular beliefs that we insist are fundamental to the human project, examines the interaction of terrorism, declining world resources, environmental change, human myths of redemption and a flawed belief in Western democracy, and shows us how a misplaced faith in our ability to improve the world has actually made it far worse. But it has a special girl and a fluffy knight who rescue each other. The girl is Raven. She's deaf. Children at school are hesitant to play with her, as if she'll break. The fluffy knight is a dog, whose first owner, when he realized the puppy couldn't hear or see, left him by the side of the road. From the moment these two meet, they understand each other. Raven asks her parents if she can adopt the dog from the local animal shelter. "She'd just read a book about an amazing woman who was deaf and blind named Helen Keller, so she called him Keller." Raven teaches Keller sign language. Keller becomes Raven's best friend. Together, they show those around them that it is OK to be different and that everyone needs a friend.

The Two Faces of Liberalism (Hardcover): John Gray The Two Faces of Liberalism (Hardcover)
John Gray
R1,115 R863 Discovery Miles 8 630 Save R252 (23%) Shipped within 7 - 13 working days

In "Two Faces of Liberalism," John Gray argues that liberal thought has always contained two incompatible philosophies. In one, liberalism is a theory of a universal rational consensus, which enables the achievement of the best way of life for all humankind. In the other, liberalism is the project of seeking terms of peaceful coexistence between different regimes and ways of life.

John Gray argues that the liberalism of rational consensus is anachronistic in a time when most late modern societies contain several ways of life, with many people belonging to more than one. The future of liberalism lies with a project of "modus vivendi," first outlined in the writings of Thomas Hobbes. In the course of his argument, Gray presents a new interpretation of liberal toleration and argues that value-pluralism in ethics can support a revised view of universal human rights.

This accessible book will be of great interest to students and scholars of political thought, moral and political philosophy, social and critical theory and cultural studies.

As Europe faced its darkest days, Stefan Zweig was a passionate voice for tolerance, peace and a world without borders. In these moving, ardent essays, speeches and articles, composed before and during the Second World War, one of the twentieth century's greatest writers mounts a defence of European unity against terror and brutality. These haunting lost messages, all appearing in English for the first time and some newly discovered, distil Zweig's courage, belief and richness of learning to give the essence of a writer; a spiritual will and testament to stand alongside his memoir, The World of Yesterday. Brief and yet intense, they are a tragic reminder of a world lost to the 'bloody vortex of history', but also a powerful statement of one man's belief in the creative imagination and the potential of humanity, with a resounding relevance today. "At a time of monetary crisis and political disorder, of mounting border controls and barbed-wire fences... Zweig's celebration of the brotherhood of peoples reminds us that there is another way" The Nation "One of liberalism's greatest defenders" New Republic "Zweig's impassioned pursuit of personal freedom seems more relevant than ever" Newsweek "These essays, few in number but rich in content, reveal the essence of Zweig's thought... Messages from a Lost World is ably translated from German into English for an American readership by Will Stone, making it an extraordinary and highly recommended addition to community and academic library collections" Midwest Book Review "In pieces from the 1920s and early 30s, Zweig takes it as a moral imperative to champion the cause of peace by reminding his readers and listeners that humanity could no longer afford the sort of belligerent nationalism that had led them into the Great War" Inside Higher Ed "While it is disheartening to read these pieces today, knowing how Zweig's life ended, it is inspiring to see that they have been published. However defeated Zweig might appear to contemporary readers, however aloof or naive, his idea of the European soul is still worth defending" Northwest Review of Books Stefan Zweig was born in 1881 in Vienna, a member of a wealthy Austrian-Jewish family. He studied in Berlin and Vienna and was first known as a translator and later as a biographer. Zweig travelled widely, living in Salzburg between the wars, and enjoying literary fame. His stories and novellas were collected in 1934. In the same year, with the rise of Nazism, he briefly moved to London, taking British citizenship. After a short period in New York, he settled in Brazil. It was here that he completed his acclaimed memoir The World of Yesterday, a lament for the golden age of a Europe destroyed by two world wars. The articles and speeches in Messages from a Lost World were written as Zweig, a pacifist and internationalist, witnessed this destruction and warned of the threat to his beloved Europe. On 23 February 1942, Zweig and his second wife Lotte were found dead, following an apparent double suicide. Much of his work is available from Pushkin Press.
