Este trabajo pretende dar a conocer las circunstancias historicas entre Santa Pola y Nueva Tabarca (Alicante-Espana). El temor a los ataques piratas, potenciara la construccion de una fortaleza que sera el nucleo de la nueva poblacion de Santa Pola. El asentamiento en la isla Plana (tambien conocida como isla de Santa Pola), de un contingente de familias de origen genoves, rescatadas de los argelinos, sera el primer paso para reforzar estas medidas de defensa contra los citados ataques. A partir de aqui se iran desarrollando, dos poblaciones que poco a poco iran entrelazando sus gentes, por eso creemos que pasan de vecinos a parientes. Hemos seleccionado el periodo 1850-1940, por ser un periodo intermedio, en la vida de estas dos poblaciones, que originalmente dependieron de Elche. Son unos anos en los que asentadas las dos comunidades, comienzan a desarrollarse una serie de acontecimientos que serviran para crear las bases de su actual situacion. Hemos potenciado el estudio de las familias, la guerra civil privo a ambas poblaciones, de la documentacion sobre sus origenes, era necesario intentar reconstruirlos, para que las nuevas generaciones pudiesen conocer sus verdaderas raices."
