A critical introduction to the Troubled Families Programme (TFP),
this book explores the roots, significance and effectiveness of
troubled family approaches in social work. An important strand of
government social policy, the TFP gives rise to a number of ethical
and political questions about assertive outreach, choice, use of
power and eliding the structural inequalities which, it is often
argued, largely account for the difficulties troubled families
face. Social Work with Troubled Families: A Critical Introduction
debates these issues, offers an examination of the systemic
framework which underpins it and looks at the initiative in a
broader context. This interdisciplinary study will be an important
resource for social workers, social work students, practice
educators and academics for its examination of practice methods. As
an exploration of social policy it will appeal to social scientists
and to policy makers along with those who seek to influence them.
Straightforward progression through eight colour coded levels.
Colourful and humorous content with proven child appeal.
Triple bill of British movies produced by the Children's Film
Foundation. In 'Sammy's Super T-Shirt' (1978), despite his small
build, Sammy Smith (Reggie Winch) dreams of being a top athlete.
While in training for a running competition, a couple of bullies
hurl Sammy's lucky t-shirt through a science lab window where an
accident results in it gaining super strength. Sammy retrieves the
t-shirt and tries to use it to win the race but things don't go
according to plan. In 'Soapbox Derby' (1957), set in London, a
teenaged Michael Crawford makes his movie debut. The Battersea Bats
and the Victoria Victors, two rival gangs of children, are getting
ready for an upcoming soapbox derby. When the Victors learn of a
new car design created by the Bats they try to get their hands on
it before the big race. In 'The Sky Bike' (1967) a bumbling
inventor hopes to win a contest with his new creation - a flying
bicycle. With the help of his young friend can he win the prize?
Twenty years have elapsed since that last book was published
dedicated to biological control of nematodes and to this day a
robust commercially successful biological control agent for plant
parasitic nematodes is not routinely used. Soil supressive to plant
nematodes is a well established phenomenon and yet we clearly do
not understand the ecology of it sufficiently well to manipulated
it in a way that we can predicatively control these important plant
pests. During the last 20 years there has also been a revolution in
molecular biology and we now have many techniques available to us
that were only just beginning to be developed when his original
book was published. Traditional biological control scientists do
not really have a clear understanding of what molecular biology can
deliver and molecular biologists do not really understand the
problems confronting biological control scientists. It has become
increasingly apparent that each of these groups needed to walk
around in each others shoes for a while, so to speak, and try and
get an understanding of where each other were coming from and what
may or may not be possible. The current volume focuses on a number
of areas that are of importance in the area of plant parasitic
nematode soil ecology, based on the multitrophic interactions
between plant, nematodes and natural enemies, and also host
parasite interactions, plant -- nematode, nematode -- natural
enemy, that can now be dissected at the molecular level. By
bringing all these areas together within the covers of a single
book we hoped to build cohesion between these disciplines and help
understand what might be possible from the point of view of
biological control.

the embittered mercenaries to better her chances of surviving.
'Hiroshima' (1990) paints a dramatic account of the race to develop

undercover cop (Mario Van Peebles) and his partner to capture the
porn king and his accomplices. In 'The Swap' (1969) Robert DeNiro
plays Sammy Nicoletti, an adult film director who is murdered. His
brother Vito (Anthony Charnota) vows to find the killer and avenge
Sammy's death. When Vito is released from prison he begins his own
investigation, encountering deceit and blackmail. The final days of
Sammy's life unfold from a party on Long Island back to the big
city. As Vito draws nearer to the truth, his own life hangs
precariously in the balance. In 'Death Collector' (1975) it's 'all
in the family' for a young, streetwise hood as he becomes a
collector for the mob. He quickly rises, run by rung, up the ladder
of the underworld in this violent crime saga. Blaxploitation legend
Fred 'The Hammer' Williamson stars in 'Black Cobra' (1987). When
fashion photographer Elys Trumbo (Eva Grimaldi) sees one of her
neighbours being murdered by a member of the Black Cobras, a
psychopathic motorcycle gang, she manages to catch the killer's
face on film. The Cobras' leader comes after her, but luckily tough
police sergeant Malone (Williamson) has been appointed to protect
her. In 'Born To Win' (1971), George Segal stars as as an
ex-hairdresser who struggles to support his expensive drug habit
and to avoid arrest, turns 'narc', informing on his fellow junkies.
Eventually Segal's sense of self-hatred threatens to overwhelm him.
In 'Revenge' (1988), the gun-crazy right-wing terrorist group
'Strike Force' have set their sights on the deadly NK-2, which is a
very large weapon indeed, and will do everything in their power to
get hold of it. Vietnam vet Jason Shepherd (Roger Rodd) is
approached with the job of tracking down these vicious killers and
preventing them from doing any more damage. He accepts the job, but
when the group gun down two of his most loyal friends, it suddenly
becomes personal.

curriculum. These are presented as three 90-question practice
papers, providing candidates with a faithful simulation of the
style, standard and format of the questions they will encounter.
With short and long explanations for each question, presented with
up-to-date references for extended reading, this book is both an
ideal tool for in-depth exam preparation, and an excellent resource
for practising consultants in intensive care medicine. It is also
suitable for candidates taking the EDIC and other intensive care
exams worldwide.

A Story of Barbarism in the United States. Initially published in
1889, An American Vendetta represented one of the earliest
journalistic accounts of the now-famous Hatfield and McCoy Feud.
During that time period, many across the country first came to hear
of the story through the pages of this book. Besides telling the
complex and bloody story of the feud-often in blunt and harsh
terms-this volume, penned by New York World reporter, Theron C.
Crawford, presents the only known interview with feudist Anderson
"Devil Anse" Hatfield conducted in Hatfield's home in Logan County,
West Virginia. At the time of Crawford's writings, the family
conflict was at its greatest intensity. The brutal massacre at
Randall McCoy's cabin by the Hatfields, which resulted in the death
of two of his children, Alifair and Calvin, had taken place just
months earlier, on New Year's Day, 1888. One week later, "Crazy
Jim" Vance was killed by Hatfield archenemy, "Bad Frank" Phillips.
It was in the shadow of this bloody backdrop that Devil Anse,
during his interview with Crawford, stressed that he wanted peace
with the McCoys-but had no intention of disarming or surrendering
to law officers or bounty hunters. Peace, it turns out, was still a
few years off. After many decades, American Vendetta, a Hatfield
and McCoy Feud classic, is available again. T.C. Crawford's
colorful interviews, his vivid description of the region, and the
brutal feud accounts make this volume fascinating to read and a
must for every library collection. American Vendetta is a valuable
work of American history.
