The aim of this book is to give a physical treatment of the kinetic theory of gases and magnetoplasmas, covering the standard material in as simple a way as possible, using mean-free-path arguments when possible and identifying problem areas where received theory has either failed or has fallen short of expectations. Examples are provided by strong shock waves, ultrasonic waves (high Knudsen numbers), and transport across strong magnetic fields. Examples of problem areas provided by strong shock waves, ultrasonic waves (high Knudsen numbers), and transport across strong magnetic fields. One of the paradoxes arising in kinetic theory concerns the fluid pressure. Collisions are necessary for a fluid force to result, yet standard kinetic theory does not entail this, being satisfied to bypass Newton's equations by defining pressure as a momentum flux. This omission usually has no adverse consequences, but with increasing Knudsen number, it leads to errors. This text pays particular attention to pressure, explaining the importance of allowing for its collisional nature from the outset in developing kinetic theory.
This 1961 book presents a concise and systematic treatment of two-dimensional subsonic, inviscid fluid motion and its aeronautical applications. Part I surveys the relevant fluid dynamics, assuming only a basic knowledge of the topic. In Part II, the methods of conformal mapping and Cauchy integrals are developed, on the assumption that the reader has only an elementary understanding of complex variable theory; this will be of interest to a wide range of applied mathematicians and engineers. In Part III, the methods are applied to several problems in fluid mechanics and aero dynamics. The text provides an extensive account of mixed boundary-value problems and treats such examples of these problems as occur in ventilated wind-tunnel theory, jet-flap theory and unsteady Hemholtz motions.
Almost everybody knows their astrological Sun sign. What if the Earth sign was just as important to our self-awareness and astrological studies? What if our present ignorance of it is contributing not only to the obesity epidemic but our continued destruction of the environment? This is a book about astrology's missing planet: Earth. For eons, astrologers have cast their charts using every known planet in our solar system, save one: our own. Earth Rise: The Case for Studying and Using Earth in Astrology is the book that finally addresses the missing planet in astrology. Explaining what that has meant to us, to astrology in general, and to our relationship with the planet itself. I also cite the marked differences between Libra and Taurus and argue that Earth, not Venus, should rule Taurus. Earth Rise includes: Earth's potential in astrology Why the astrological house wheel is not enough to represent Earth in natal charts. How the omission of planet Earth has affected our awareness, our health, and our reality Where Earth's astrological traits have been hiding all these years Earth's esoteric and mundane symbology Explanation and delineation of the fixed Sun/Earth opposition Earth and the human body In depth: how the earth element operates in astrological charts The marked differences between the signs of Libra and Taurus Why the Venus-rulership of Taurus is over A deeper exploration of Taurian qualities Why Earth should be the planetary ruler of Taurus Complete delineation of Earth in signs, houses, aspects, transits, and Horary Charts This book offers in-depth coverage of a subject that has only been lurking in the background for years and should be of great interest to astrologers, students of all metaphysical or occult studies, or anyone who would like to know more about themselves, the Earth, the earth element, and the discipline of astrology.
