The Awakening is a story of courage, redemption, and discovery.
Meet Meg Richards, a rather ordinary working mother who wakes up to
discover how truly undiscovered she really is. As she begins to
unravel her relationships, she discovers that being "real" might
just be the key to her own redemption. Surrounded by people who are
more interested in creating an image for themselves as opposed to
just being themselves, she realizes that in order for her life to
change, she must first understand that being perfect is not the key
to happiness.
She must also face the reality of her relationship with her
husband, Craig. Her perceptions, her memories, and all of her
relationships will be challenged as Meg tries to put her life back
together, piece-by-piece. An unseen force is at play and will not
stop until she remembers. A journey to the past will unlock these
secrets and she will never be the same again.
The year 2020 marks the centenary of the passing of the 19th
Amendment that allowed for women in the United States to vote. The
strategic struggle of women demanding equal dignity and the right
to vote in the United States helped to shed light on the systemic
evils that have plagued the collective history of the country.
Ideologies of racism, genderism, classism, and many more were and
continue to be used to deny women their dignities both in the
United States and in other parts of the world. This work sheds
light on the intersectionality of religion, class, gender,
philosophy, theology, and culture as they shape the experiences of
women, especially women of color. A fundamental question that this
volume aims to address is: What does it mean to be a woman of color
in a world where systems of erasure dominate? The title of this
volume is meant to showcase a deliberate engagement with the
uncelebrated insights and perspectives of women of color in a world
where systemic discrimination persists, and to articulate new
strategies and paradigms for recognizing their contributions to the
broader struggles for freedom and equity of women in our world.
This book examines the practice of international election
observation in a Caribbean context. It presents a survey of the
Commonwealth Caribbean perspective and a concise case study of
Guyana between 1964 and 2015. This research traces the roots of
election observation and how this practice became integrated into
the landscape of Caribbean electoral politics. More specifically,
the study examines the process by which election observers have
become key actors in elections in the Commonwealth Caribbean. One
of the issues the book contemplates is why Caribbean countries
accept the imposition of observation within the context of
sovereignty. The case of Guyana and other Anglophone Caribbean
states shows the costs of not having observers have been
multidimensional and have eclipsed concerns of respecting state
sovereignty.
Through its use of real clinical examples, this book provides an
explanation of the project management process tailored for nurses.
It first describes, in detail, the project management process along
with its relationship to the phases of the project life cycle.
Coverage includes the tools available to successfully complete each
phase of the project management process and advance the project
life cycle. With the aid of case studies and project examples, the
book then examines how to apply these principles in the day-to-day
work of the nurse, whether manager, staff nurse, educator,
researcher, or informatician.
This work is an exploratory examination of the experiences,
motivations, and coping mechanisms of women who are involved in
intimate relationships with registered sexual offenders. The study
focuses both on women who were involved with an offender prior to
the commission of his offense and who stayed with him
post-conviction, and on women who became involved with a registered
offender after his sex offense conviction. Like the offender
himself, these women face a variety of challenges in responding to
treatment of them by friends, family, the community, and the
criminal justice system. Utilizing the results of intensive
interviews, this work provides a unique look at the women who are
one of the few sources of support for registered sexual offenders
and assesses the effectiveness and wide-ranging implications of
community notification and registration laws on public safety,
policy, and practice. This work offers alternative approaches based
on evidence and case studies and considers the significance of
familial contact in buffering sexual recidivism. These women are
the heretofore unstudied victims of sexual offending legislation.
This book is essential reading for those in sociology, criminology,
psychology, and social work. For undergraduate or graduate
students, practitioners, researchers, or policy makers, this
thought-provoking book will shed light on how to optimize the
reintegration of sex offenders. It assesses the effectiveness and
wide-ranging implications of sex offender legislation on public
safety, policy, and practice and considers alternative approaches
to reduce sexual violence.

A breathtaking collection of photographs and expert commentary that
shed light on the most mysterious creatures of the deep
seaJellyfish come in a dazzling array of colors, shapes, and sizes,
drifting through every ocean, from the surface to the deepest of
the deep seas, and are even found in freshwater locations. These
ancient creatures, also called sea jellies (they are not,
technically, fish), are so otherworldly and luminous that it is no
wonder they are often compared to mythical shapeshifters. Some are
so delicate that they shatter with the smallest disturbance to the
water, while the tenacity of others means they can withstand almost
any temperature, any salinity, starvation, and even being
dismembered. And some are truly biologically immortal. This
visually breathtaking book showcases 100 species of jellyfish
within its pages—from the ubiquitous Aurelia to the enigmatic
Velella—along with astounding facts about these fascinating
marine life-forms. Some are splendid, some strange, some poisonous,
some deadly. Some carry surprising secrets and some are barely
known, but every one of them is remarkable and has a tale to tell.
An introduction by noted expert Lisa-ann Gershwin, with her
commentary throughout, invites you into the wondrous world of
jellyfish.
This collection brings together an interdisciplinary group of
scholars exploring how development financing and interventions are
being shaped by a wider and more complex platform of actors than
usually considered in the existing literature. The contributors
also trace a changing set of key relations and alliances in
development - those between business and consumers; NGOs and
celebrities; philanthropic organizations and the state; diaspora
groups and transnational advocacy networks; ruling elites and
productive capitalists; and between 'new donors' and developing
country governments. Despite the diversity of these actors and
alliances, several commonalities arise: they are often based on
hybrid transnationalism and diffuse notions of development
responsibility; rather than being new per se, they are newly being
studied as engaging in practices that are now coming to be
understood as 'development'; and they are limited in their ability
to act as agents of development by their lack of accountability or
pro-poor commitment. The articles in this collection point to
images and representations as increasingly important in development
'branding' and suggest fruitful new ground for critical development
studies. This book was originally published as a special issue of
Third World Quarterly.
Perverts and Predators elaborates on the numerous factors that have
contributed to the passage of sexual offending laws in the United
States. Authors Lisa and Laura Zilney weave together a story of how
sex crimes laws were created by analyzing the changing roles of
religion and the medical community, offering theoretical
explanations for sex offending from the unique perspectives of
criminology and sexology. Working under the central premise that
sex and sexuality are positive and healthy and that the only way to
deal with the issue of sexual offending is through sex positive
education and counseling, Zilney and Zilney trace the history of
sex offending laws and highlight cases in the media that
contributed to increasingly punitive legislation. The authors
provide information concerning the prevalence and incidence of sex
offending, including victim and offender profiles and the frequency
and types of offenses committed in order to give readers greater
understanding of the problem. They discuss politics as a major
player in the creation of a moral panic surrounding sex offenders
and fueling public outrage to garner support for "get tough" laws.
The management of sex offenders in society is discussed, as are
consequences of the punitive approach for both the offender and the
victim. Comparative case studies are used to explore what the
United States could learn from other countries' approaches to
sexual offending.
