This dark comic thriller is a Hollywood remake of the 1927 silent film based on the play by John Willard, and stars Bob Hope in his first big role as Wallie Campbell, the not-so-brave protector of Joyce Norman (Paulette Goddard), an heiress who stands to inherit the fortune of her late uncle: an eccentric millionaire who made a proviso in his will that she must spend one night in his big eerie mansion without losing her mind if she wants to get her hands on his money.
