Companies from various sectors of the economy are confronted with
the new phenomenon of digital transformation and are faced with the
challenge of formulating and implementing a company-wide strategy
to incorporate what are often viewed as "disruptive" technologies.
These technologies are sometimes associated with significant and
extremely rapid change, in some cases with even the replacement of
established business models. Many of these technologies have been
deployed in unison by leading-edge companies acting as the catalyst
for significant process change and people skills enhancement.
Digital Transformation, Industry Use Cases, and the Impact of
Disruptive Technologies examines the phenomenon of digital
transformation and the impact of disruptive technologies through
the lens of industry case studies where different combinations of
these new technologies have been deployed and incorporated into
enterprise IT and business strategies. Covering topics including
chatbot implementation, multinational companies, cloud computing,
internet of things, artificial intelligence, and transformable area
systems, this book is essential for senior management, IT managers,
technologists, computer scientists, cybersecurity analysts,
academicians, researchers, IT consultancies, professors, and
students.
European union movements played a central role in promoting a
"European model of society" -- a humane industrial relations
system, high labor standards, generous welfare states, and
collective political representation -- which reached its pinnacle
in the post-World Was II era. The recent shift to lower growth,
rising unemployment, renewed European integration, neo-liberalism,
and globalization has challenged this "European Model" and the
unions' place in it. These essays, written by some of the leading
scholars in the field, examine responses of six major European
union movements to the dramatic changes in economic and political
conditions in the last two decades. They are the result of a group
research effort and are based on a common framework which lends it
quite an exceptional coherence. Its value is enhanced by the
editors' conclusion that reflects upon new union positions and
their implications, in particular the most important question of
what will happen to the 'European model of society' in consequence.
Recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate Bottles provides an
overview of PET chemistry, highlighting the main degradation,
depolymerization processes and pathways of PET, along with the
applications of recycled monomers derived from PET waste. The
latest methodologies of recycling and feedstock recovery are
covered, providing critical foundational information. In addition,
the book discusses a range of established methods of polymer
recycling, with an emphasis on real world industrial case studies
and the latest academic research. Users will find in-depth
lifecycle and cost analysis of each waste management method,
comparing the suitability and feasibility of each to support the
decision -making process. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is the
most recycled plastic in the world, but still represents a
significant amount of landfill waste. This book presents an update
on new regulations, providing recommendations for new opportunities
in this area, including new processing methods and applications for
recycled PET.

First published in 1984. This book represents a major study of
union responses to the economic crisis of the 1970s and 1980s.
Abjuring governmental or managerial outlooks, it argues that
unions, as representatives of essential producer groups, would be
central to the renegotiation of the economic world. The work also
stresses the importance of situating union responses to the crisis
within the socio-historical evolution of their political economies
during the rise and decline of the post-war economic boom. The
Social Democratic affiliation of unions in Britain, West Germany
and Sweden make them particularly comparable. This title will be of
interest to students of politics and economics.

Coalition governments are the norm in most of the world's
parliamentary democracies. Because these governments are comprised
of multiple political parties, they are subject to tensions that
are largely absent under single-party government. The pressures of
electoral competition and the necessity of delegating substantial
authority to ministers affiliated with specific parties threaten
the compromise agreements that are at the heart of coalition
governance. The central argument of this book is that strong
legislative institutions play a critical role in allowing parties
to deal with these tensions and to enforce coalition bargains.
Based on an analysis of roughly 1,300 government bills across five
democracies (Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, and the
Netherlands), the book paints a detailed picture of the treatment
of government legislation in contemporary parliaments. Two central
contributions emerge. First, the book forces a reconsideration of
the common perception that legislatures are largely irrelevant
institutions in European democracies. The data presented here make
a compelling case that parliaments that feature strong committee
systems play an influential role in shaping policy. Second, the
book contributes to the field of coalition governance. While
scholars have developed detailed accounts of the birth and death of
coalitions, much less is known about the manner in which coalitions
govern between these bookend events. Parliaments and Coalitions
contributes to a richer understanding of how multiparty governments
make policy. Comparative Politics is a series for students,
teachers, and researchers of political science that deals with
contemporary government and politics. Global in scope, books in the
series are characterised by a stress on comparative analysis and
strong methodological rigour. The series is published in
association with the European Consortium for Political Research.

Recycling of Polyurethane Foams introduces the main
degradation/depolymerization processes and pathways of polyurethane
foam materials, focusing on industrial case studies and academic
reviews from recent research and development projects. The book can
aid practitioners in understanding the basis of polymer degradation
and its relationship with industrial processes, which can be of
substantial value to industrial complexes the world over. The main
pathways of polymer recycling via different routes and industrial
schemes are detailed, covering all current techniques, including
regrinding, rebinding, adhesive pressing and compression moulding
of recovered PU materials that are then compared with
depolymerization approaches. The book examines life cycle
assessment and cost analysis associated with polyurethane foams
waste management, showing the potential of various techniques. This
book will help academics and researchers identify and improve on
current depolymerization processes, and it will help industry
sustainability professionals choose the appropriate approach for
their own waste management systems, thus minimizing the costs and
environmental impact of their PU-based end products.
Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) is one of the most important
developments in modern European politics. Building on two decades
of monetary integration it transfers monetary policy, a core
function of the modern state, to an independent European Central
Bank (ECB) and limits member states' fiscal policy discretion. The
ECB insists that growth and employment depend on 'flexibilizing'
Europe's labor markets through deep reforms of the social policies
and employment relations which comprise the 'European social
model'. Member states retain authority over these areas at the
heart of national politics, but how will EMU affect the domestic
politics of institutional change? Will EMU reinforce de-regulation
and retrenchment or will it facilitate reforms that maintain the
protections against economic insecurity, inequality, and unilateral
employer power the European model has provided? To address these
questions, a transatlantic team of leading experts analyzes the
evolving tensions between monetary integration and national social
policies.
Thompson's Modern Land Law explores the core areas of this subject
area through a theoretical and critical lens. The authors excel at
explaining difficult rules and concepts clearly but without
oversimplification, guiding students around the common pitfalls in
areas where there is typically misunderstanding or confusion.
Straightforward accounts of the law are underpinned by insightful
author commentary on areas of debate, exposing students to critical
reasoning, while examples of the context in which land law operates
helps students to understand abstract topics and encourages them to
appreciate the social importance of this subject. This
well-established textbook, both detailed and accessible, is a
comprehensive resource for all students studying land law modules.

This volume presents a revision of gay criticism and focuses on
E.M. Forster's place in the emerging field of queer studies. Many
previous critics of Forster downplayed his homosexuality or read
Forster in terms of gay liberation. This collection situates
Forster within the Bloomsbury Group and examines his relations to
major figures such as Henry James, Edward Carpenter, and Virginia
Woolf. Particular attention is paid to Forster's several accounts
of India and their troubled relation to the British colonial
enterprise. Analyzing a wide range of Forster's work, the authors
examine material from Forster's undergraduate writings to stories
written more than a half-century later.
