This is a humorous, wry, critical and, sometimes, nostalgic look at people and events in South Africa over the past half century by one of the country's longest-serving newspaper editors. In these memoirs Michael Green writes about the famous and infamous, the admirable and not so admirable characters he encountered during his long career: politicians, musicians, sportsmen, actors, lawyers and, of course, journalists in a variety of situations. Rich in anecdote and information, Around And About is a valuable contribution to the story of South Africa in the twentieth century and an entertaining and enjoyable read. Michael Green was editor of the DAILY NEWS, Durban, for 15 years and editor-in-chief of the SUNDAY TRIBUNE for three years.
Comedy sequel starring Martin Lawrence. In order to trap a brutal bank robber, Malcolm (Lawrence) goes deep undercover, impersonating a fun-loving granny known as Big Momma. But saving the country is the least of Big Momma's problems as he takes on his ultimate challenge - being nanny/housekeeper to the suspect's dysfunctional family.
We've all heard the rationale: "It doesn't matter what you believe
as long as you're sincere." Or "All religions are pretty much the
same." But are they the same? Does it matter which one you follow?
In this insightful and compelling book, Michael Green invites
readers into a relationship with Jesus Christ, the divine
revelation and only pathway to the one true God.
"The epistle of 2 Peter has had a very rough passage down the centuries," says Michael Green in this commentary. "Its entry into the Canon was precarious in the extreme . . . It was deemed second-class Scripture by Luther, rejected Erasmus, and regarded with hesitancy by Calvin." And about Jude he says, "WE can learn a great deal about a man by listening to what he has to say about himself. Jude makes two significant claims . . . He is a servant of Jesus Christ . . . He is a brother of James" (Jesus' brother). Explore these ideas and much more by reading Green's excellent commentary. The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retypeset and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series. The Tyndale New Testament Commentaries have long been a trusted resource for Bible study. Written by some of the world's most distinguished evangelical scholars, these twenty volumes offer clear, reliable, and relevant explanations of every book in the New Testament. These Tyndale volumes are designed to help readers understand what the Bible actually says and what it means. The introduction to each volume gives a concise but thorough description of the authorship, date, and historical background of the biblical book under consideration. The commentary itself examines the text section by section, drawing out its main themes. It also comments on individual verses and deals with problems of interpretation. The aim throughout is to get at the true meaning of the Bible and to make its message plain to readers today.

Soon after the American Revolution, ?certain of the founders began to recognize the strategic significance of Asia and the Pacific and the vast material and cultural resources at stake there. Over the coming generations, the United States continued to ask how best to expand trade with the region and whether to partner with China, at the center of the continent, or Japan, looking toward the Pacific. Where should the United States draw its defensive line, and how should it export democratic principles? In a history that spans the eighteenth century to the present, Michael J. Green follows the development of U.S. strategic thinking toward East Asia, identifying recurring themes in American statecraft that reflect the nation's political philosophy and material realities. Drawing on archives, interviews, and his own experience in the Pentagon and White House, Green finds one overarching concern driving U.S. policy toward East Asia: a fear that a rival power might use the Pacific to isolate and threaten the United States and prevent the ocean from becoming a conduit for the westward free flow of trade, values, and forward defense. By More Than Providence works through these problems from the perspective of history's major strategists and statesmen, from Thomas Jefferson to Alfred Thayer Mahan and Henry Kissinger. It records the fate of their ideas as they collided with the realities of the Far East and adds clarity to America's stakes in the region, especially when compared with those of Europe and the Middle East.

Baptism: The confusion never seems to go away. Some Christians stress baptism as a gateway into the church. Others see it primarily as an individual's testimony to faith and repentance. Still others concentrate on baptism in the spirit. Michael Green attempts to steer a straight, biblical course through the troubled waters of baptism. In seeking common ground among various Christian traditions, he looks first at what Scripture has to say and then assesses the strengths and weaknesses of differing views in that light. While insisting that baptism is not substitute for saving faith, he nevertheless makes a strong case for the practice of infant baptism, confronting head-on common objections to the practice as well as addressing the related problems of confirmation and rebaptism.

The Worlds of James Buchanan and Thaddeus Stevens examines the political interests, relationships, and practices of two of the era's most prominent politicians as well as the political landscapes they inhabited and informed. Both men called Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, their home, and both were bachelors. During the 1850s, James Buchanan tried to keep the Democratic Party alive as the slavery debate divided his peers and the political system. Thaddeus Stevens, meanwhile, as Whig turned Republican, invested in the federal government to encourage economic development and social reform, especially antislavery and Republican Reconstruction. Considering Buchanan and Stevens's divergent lives alongside their political and social worlds reveals the dynamics and directions of American politics, especially northern interests and identities. While focusing on these individuals, the contributors also explore the roles of parties and patronage in informing political loyalties and behavior. They further track personal connections across lines of gender and geography and underline the importance of details like who regularly dined and conversed with whom, the complex social milieu of Washington, the role of rumor in determining political allegiances, and the ways personality and failing relationships mattered in a hothouse of national politics fueled by slavery and expansion. The essays in The Worlds of James Buchanan and Thaddeus Stevens collectively invite further consideration of how parties, personality, place, and private lives influenced the political interests and actions of an age affected by race, religion, region, civil war, and reconstruction.
How did Jesus lead? What are the key principles of leadership that he encouraged in his disciples? Michael Green draws out the radical teaching of the New Testament, and explains why a recovery of that teaching is so vital if Christianity is to grow and thrive, and not just survive.
Few of us have the ease or intimacy in prayer that you would expect to find in family conversation between children and parents. We need help in this area above almost anything else in the spiritual life---and God in his generosity has provided it through the Apostle Paul. A Prayer Journey with the Apostle Paul is a beautifully written devotional that takes us to the heart of this man of God. Through daily readings from Acts and the Epistles we discover the essence of Paul s prayers in meditation, petition, and praise---earnestly seeking God s guidance, confident in the Spirit, unremitting in requests for the spiritual growth of others, and overflowing with thankfulness. As we overhear the Apostle in communion with his God, we discover how our own prayer lives can be transformed."

This classic Images of War book traces the key role played by destroyers of the United States Navy since the first order for 16 in 1898\. Prior to the USA's entry into the First World War a further 63 destroyers were commissioned and, due to the U-boat threat, 267 more were authorised by Congress once hostilities were joined. Between 1932 and Pearl Harbor ten new classes totalling 169 destroyers came into service. During the war years American shipyards turned out a further 334 vessels. Of the three classes, the 175 Fletcher-class were judged the most successful. The Cold War years saw the development of seven more classes. More recently 82 of the stealth shaped Arleigh Burke class have been ordered but the futuristic Zumwalt-class programme has been curtailed for cost reasons. Expert author Michael Green is to be commended for compiling this comprehensive account of the USN's impressive destroyer programme with its authoritative text and superb images.
A coarse actor is... - One who can remember their lines but not the order in which they come - One whose eyebrows are attached to their feet (so every facial expression involves the whole body as well) - One who limps on both legs simultaneously - One who knows everybody else's lines better than their own For 50 years, Michael Green's The Art of Coarse Acting has been essential reading for anyone with a passion for theatre. It's an outrageous spoof that punctures pretentiousness, pokes fun at incompetence, revels in disaster and lifts the lid on life backstage. As this special 50th anniversary edition proves, however much the theatre may change, Coarse Actors don't. Green's acerbic yet affectionate work remains one of the funniest books about acting ever written.
