One of the most acclaimed concept albums of all time, The Wall is renowned as Roger Waters’ Rock Opera dealing with abandonment and personal isolation.
It all started in 1966, amid the psychedelic explosion then sweeping swinging London. In small, smoky clubs like the UFO and the Roundhouse, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wrightand David Gilmourgalvanized the vibrant British rock scene with their extended freeform instrumentals and surreal pop songs--all performed to the accompaniment of bobbing blobs of multi-colored liquid lights. Perhaps even more than Cream and Jimi Hendrix, the quartet known as Pink Floydwere psychedelia personified. Twenty-two albums later, 160 million in records sales and sold out tours to an estimated 25 million fans, Pink Floyd are arguably the greatest rock band of all time. No other band has relentlessly tinkered with electronics and all manner of special effects to push pop formats to their outer limits. Now, Capitol Records is proud to release Echoes, The Best Of Pink Floyd. Compiled and produced under the band's active participation, this is the first and only compilation to span the band's entire 35-year career. Echoescontains 27 tracks on 2 CDs--over 140 minutes of music mixed together as one continuous piece of music. All of the music for this compilation was newly remastered and assembled by long time Pink Floyd producer and engineer James Gutherie. Other highlights include the previously unreleased "When Tigers Broke Free" (from the Wallsessions) and a brilliant box package, containing a special 32-page booklet with complete lyrics.
1972 again saw the band collaborate with filmmaker Barbet Schroeder to create the soundtrack to the film La Vallee, becoming the band’s seventh studio album Obscured By Clouds.
Immersion Editions present the complete artistic experience. Lavishly packaged in a sturdy 29cm square box, the sets contain remastered, previously unreleased and audio-visual material, plus much additional content – reproduced memorabilia, brand new graphics, art prints, collectors’ items, lavish booklets and more.
